Hey all, we just signed on with Rock Springs to do a fun Summer BBQ mini Series leading up to their next big 4 meat comp in October.

Here are the details.

The events will be in conjunction with their monthly Hogs in Heat event which is the first Saturday of each month, June, July, August & September.

Dates are:

June 4th, 2011 - Pork Theme - Pork Butts & Brats
July 2nd, 2011 - Chicken Theme - Comp Chicken & Chicken Wings
August 6th, 2011 - Beef Theme - Brisket & Burgers
September 3rd, 2011 - Ribs & Tri Tip
October 28th & 29th, 2011 - 4 Meat $10,000 Prize Fund BCS Cook-off.

As you can see, we are going to have one comp meat each month and one grilling meat.  This is to give you and the public some fun with the menu items and to give you a chance to practice all 4 of your comp meats leading up to the big event in October.

These events will be done like the mini Brisket comps we do.  You may cook these at home and bring them to the event or you can cook at the event.

Teams can show up starting at Noon on the day of the event and the event will begin at 5 pm with the first turn in.  2nd Turn in will be at 5:45 pm.

You do not have full site setups, the site sizes are just 15 X 10 or 20 X 10. We can work with you if you need something bigger, but we don't have a ton of space for these events.

Samples to the Public are encouraged as this event will be in conjunction with their Monthly Hogs in Heat events.  Samples will work the way we normally do them, $2 per sample to the public with $1 going back to the teams and $1 going to the charity that is out helping out with that month's event.  We plan to have 4 different charities for the 4 different summer events.

Normal price for the Hogs in Heat event is $12 per person, anyone from our group will get a discount of $2 per person, so our costs will just be $10 per person, so you are encouraged to stay and enjoy the event and bands as well as encouraged to invite all of your friends & family..

Cost to compete in these mini events $20 per team per month to enter in advance, $25 via Pay Pal or $30 day of event.  For each event you enter, you will receive a $25 credit toward the October event, so if you compete in all 4 of these Rock Springs events, you will get $100 off your entry cost for the October Boo & Que event.

The winner of each month's event will also receive an additional $25 off the entry into the October event, so if you enter and win all 4 of these mini events, you will get $200 off your entry to the October event.  (Entry for that event has not been determined yet, but it will most likely be around $200 - $225.).

Come on out and enjoy a fun event, get the public a chance to taste some great BBQ.

Entry Forms will be available Shortly..

Come on out and support this great concept for Summer BBQ and Rock Springs.  They have been great to us over the past few years and we have a fantastic relationship with them.

This should be a fun summer..

This sounds like a very awesome deal!!  I'm loving this idea.  Just the other day I was thinking it'd be nice to do a competition for ribs and pork like those brisket comps.  Gotta clear it with the mrs. but I'd like to do the pork and ribs, and I got a couple of months to develop an awesome burger.

Question though.  Would it be possible to donate my $25 off the oct. comps entry fee to another team?  I'd love to do these mini comps but won't be able to do October.  No big deal if not though.

Unfortunately no, the team has to have the same name & head cook.  It's just an incentive to get teams to do these mini events while saving them $$ on the bigger event at the same time.

We do look forward to seeing you out at these events though..

Sounds good.  No harm in asking right?  ;D
Another question came to mind though.  To give out samples we're gonna need a food handlers license right?  Anyway someone can post up a link about how to get one of those?

Yes, it is required to have at least a food handler's card.  You can get one by taking a quick test.  I was in and out in 7 minutes.

Here is the link to the info and where you can go.  http://www.maricopa.gov/envsvc/envhealth/specprog/foodworker/testschedule.aspx

Even though this is in Yavapi County, you can still get a Maricopa one and it will work.

Going by the number of sauces at the last two mini comps, maybe it should be a main stay. ;D

ok not for nothing but, what if say i were to compete? seeing how i am not local, and probably would not be able to take extra time off to get  handlers license, what would i need to do?
not sure that i could do one of these, but i am sure that there are others that could and are not local to your area.

You would be OK as long as you were still following the proper procedures of hand wash station & sanitation..

Hope you do come out for some of these, it would be great to see you again..
