Actually its not that hard to make your own. The hard part is getting a good food grade barrel. If your up to making your own we can lead you in that direction as well.

I just came across this site.  http://www.arizonabarrels.com

Looks all right to start things for your own build.

maybe I will do a little research on building my own. especially with the link provided on where to get a cheap barrel. I am still interested in purchasing one if anyone is willing to build me one. as it may be a while before I fiind time to make my own.

I recently made one for myself.  I am pretty happy with how it turned out.  I have used it many times already and it has worked very well.  I would be willing to make one to sell.

Here is a link to a post from when I built it.

How's that hinge holding up Josh? I'm thinking of using that idea for my second UDS I'm building now. Also, what diameter is your fire basket?

Here's a link that'll give you step by step instructions on how to build one and cost:
http://www.thepickledpig.com/forums/general-bbq-grilling/832-our-uds-cooker-how-build-one-part-1-a.html

I plan on using this link to help me build my first UDS.  And I'm sure I can get the cost a little cheaper if I look around for parts.

I'm thinking of going this route for the back yard as well. Has anyone tried a stoker on one of these?

Ya know, my UDS's hold such a constant temp that a stoker would be nice but not necessary. Once you get them dialed in, they just hold rock solid, for seemingly forever. I've thought about it for my WSM's, but not yet for the UDS's. Be sure to repost the details, i'm eager to see the difference.
