Who is Mr. K, and what is the story behind the restaurant?  When does it open?

All I know is this is their second location, the first one has been open 13 years and we should be open within 1-2 weeks but probably closer to 1

Mr. K's is a small joint on the south side of Tucson.   Great food and better BBQ sauce. I hope their knew location does well and sticks to their mom and pop roots. I cant wait to go. The new restaurant is on a corner that seems to eat up and spit our restaurants, a different place there every year. We'll see what happens

Yeah there new place used to be a chili's. There going to be different in that this is more like a Texas market BBQ, you'll choose your sides and then say how you want your meat cut (ie brisket fatty or lean) and then it'll all be put in butcher paper and handed to you and then you go sit down. I haven't seen this style in Tucson yet anywhere.

The Rudy's way, minus the gas station.  Hope it works, but that corner is not very nice.  Maybe the hospital staff will help during lunch?  That makes the 3rd BBQ joint in a mile radius!

I am hoping they did a market feasibility analysis or something along those lines.

Congrats on the job! Just getting work in this economy is an achievement, I wish you well. It's also great that you found a job in the BBQ field. That corner location is truly a tough place.

As for those who don't know about Mr. K's, i'll tell you that I've known Ray Kendrick Jr.(Mr. K) for a few years. He has a passion for BBQ, has worked his tail off to build the name and can put out some real good food. This new location is actually not a second location but rather a new separate restaurant by fellow family piggybacking off his reputation and name. It's a long story, but it's my understanding the old Mr. K's now will be going under the name The Original Mr. K's. Personally, I will only frequent the Original, as the food is not commercial, it's a real guy trying to make it work through good food and long hours.

As anyone knows, restaurants deal with such a slim margain that they are a labor of love. The "Original" Mr' K's has a low overhead since it's located in half of an old Circle K and employs two people (truly old school).

Without going into dirty details, that's the story. Chris, we all wish you much success and hopefully the restaurant does well. The more BBQ the better.
