Taylor!!!  Woohoo!!!

We missed attending this event last year as I was in Reno looking after my nephews while my sister and brother-in-law were on vacation.  I've looked at the pics that are on the AZBBQA website and it looks like a great spot.  We'll be there this year!

Alright, I will make the official announcment. Yes, it looks like last years.

What:    Sweet Corn & Que 2007 Arizona State BBQ Championship
When:   August 31-Sept 1st
Where:  Taylor, AZ  see the website for more info

http://www.taylorcornandque.com
(We will be updating the website soon so check back in a couple of days.)

Grand Champion- $2,000 + A Big Green Egg package valued at $1000.
Reserve Champion- $1,000
1st Place each category-Cash prize TBA
2nd Place each category-Cash prize TBA
3rd Place each category-Cash prize TBA
(I am trying to get a $3500 prize for Grand Champion but we will see.)

The Taylor Corn & Que is the official Arizona State Championship BBQ competition and is put on by the AZBBQA. The championship is KCBS sanctioned and will attract barbecue enthusiasts from all over Arizona as well as neighboring states.

Competitors will complete in four categories, Pork Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, Pork and have the option of competing in "anything but", the championship will have winners in each category in addition to a grand champion of the entire event. The title of grand champion is a qualifier and entitles the winning team to an invitation to the Kansas City American Royal Competition and Jack Daniel's Competition; both of which are national events and require state championship titles to enter. (The contest must have 25 teams to officially be a qualifier.)

This is a small town BBQ contest and I want to keep it that way. More than likely I will cut it off at 35 teams so if you plan to enter let me know ASAP. The official entry form will be available on the website by Monday.

For more information please check out the Taylor Sweet Corn & Que Festival website.

This contest was alot of fun last year. I had fun putting it on and the City Of Taylor is just thrilled that we are going to do it again. They have gone out of their way both last year and this year to make it happen for us. When no other city would give us the time of day Taylor jumped at the chance to host this contest.

This is really great news!  We are definitely in and will register right away so as not to get shut out.

Aaron, do you have any advance word on what the entry fee will be for teams this year?  I believe I recall reading that it was $225 for all four meats last year but I'm not sure since I wasn't there.

Thanks in advance for putting this event on.  We've been looking forward to it for a long time.

I will have the answer to that question for you by Saturday. I am trying to get the price down and the prize pool up so I am going to see if I can burn the candle at both ends a little and see what happens. More than likely it will be $200 or less.

I have the official registration sheet. It is not posted online yet but if anyone wants it send me an E Mail and I will send it to you. Entry fees are $190 for all four meats. Right now the official prize money is $2000 for grand champion plus the BIg Green Egg and $1000 for reserve. I am hoping to double both of those before contest day though.

I would advise everyone to get their entry money in asap. I know it shows the sponsors that WE'RE SERIOUS. Some contests last year in California were cancelled because the sponsors got jittery because of the 'lack of interest'. We knew they would fill up but they couldn't convince them.
