NEW DATES !!   AUGUST 21-22, Friday-Saturday, 2009,

IBCA Sanctioned, New Mexico STATE CHAMPIONSHIP !

BILLY THE KID AND PANCHO VILLA LOOK-A-LIKE CONTESTS !!

Saturday, BBQ Half Chicken, BBQ Pork Spare Ribs, (St. Louis Style) and BBQ Beef Brisket. Single entry, $50,  $125 for all three meats.

They want you set up NLT noon on Friday, which might be a tough one for me.  Does anyone know if the sides of the EZ Up qualify as a "screened enclosure" for preperation?

Just a few short weeks ago this wasn't going to be a sanctioned cook-off as money was too tight.  Now they want to fund the prize pool from vendor sales and not be committed to an actual guaranteed number.  I don't like that sound of that at all.

I may be misinterpreting what is written on the website but I get the impression that vending may be considered a requirement of cooking this contest.  That alone may change the status of this contest from an "open" event to something else which would nullify it's status as a Jack qualifier.  Also, since this is a 2nd year or "established" event, it will require a minimum of 25 teams in order to achieve qualifier status in the first place.  That may be a tough nut to crack if they are trying to require teams to vend.

This event falls on the same weekend as the Rock & Ribs in Salt Lake City.  That's where we're planning to be so good luck to all that decide to go to this one.
