Mike, are these contests a Friday/Saturday thing?

Check in Friday afternoon/evening like normal, get meats inspected and start cooking as you wish.

Turn in's will be on Saturday, we have the venue until Monday, so everyone will have to be out by like Noon on Monday.  This way, it gives you all day Sunday to re-energize, enjoy the venue and the "Casino".

Let me know if that answer is what you were looking for.  We were thinking about possibly making the contest itself on Sunday, but I think most contests run Friday/Saturday, don't they?

Thanks,

Mike

If God wanted us to be Vegetarians, why did he make animals out of meat??

Most do, but I think that could be changing. Both events in San Diego this year will be that way. Will we be allowed to leave on Saturday or Sunday? If so then a Saturday/Sunday event might be more attractive to the local teams. They wouldn't have to take off that Friday from work. To an out of state team it would mean taking Monday off instead of Friday, of course depending how far you have to travel, but you get what I mean. Just a thought.
What do some of you other guys think?

I won't make much difference to us.  We're both self-employed and "weekends" don't really exist in my business.  People travel every day so it all works out the same for me.

From my point of view.  Taking a Friday off and traveling is much easier than taking a Monday off.  I don't know why, but Monday's off just don't seem as inticing as Friday's off.  Just my opinion...  :D

I guess it helps out the locals more than anyone. Like I said, just a thought.

Yes the Sat Sun is gaining popularity
What about later turn ins so its a Saturday evening turn in with Awards at like 8 pm?
Then you have Sunday to get home
Friday evening to get there
With the new  CBBQA Team of the Year  rules we WILL get 10 CBBQA teams there
Guys  could start cooking Saturday Morning
With the Double The IBCA Takes longer to Judge
So The KCBS could add another category and end at the same time

My first impression is that I'm not in favor of making the turn in times later.  While some folks will want to stay overnight on Saturday, (assuming a Friday/Saturday schedule), others will want not.  Later turn in times will make it much harder on those who want to leave Saturday night.

Aside from the fact that people will leave at the end of the day Saturday, regardless of the time, what would be the main benefit of changing the standard turn in times?

For me, Fridays are usually better days to be off work than on Mondays. It also seems like most people have the ability to at least work a 1/2 day on Friday.

If it was a local contest, Sat/Sun would be fine. If I'm driving out to AZ, coming home early on Sunday works best.

I'm one of those people that likes to clean my smokers and all my gear the next day, so having Sunday to do that works great. I have found that if I don't get it done on Sunday, it sets until the following weekend. I just can't seem to do it after work during the week.

I know you want to get as many participants as possible, and it's hard to please everyone, but I think you gotta cater to the locals first. If people want to be there bad enough, they will find a way to make it no matter what the schedule is. So, having a killer contest seems to be the real key.

I think that was my 4 cents worth, but I'm up early and drink'in coffee, with not much else to do until the family wakes up  ;D

I have read on some other forums that some contest are going to later turn-in times so that the morining is not so rushed and hectic. Also some say it is better becasue yiou don't have to be up all night tending fire.I read where some are doing what Thom says,turn-ins at 4-5 pm and warsd at like 7-8 pm.I would not mind that,as I stay on saterday nights anyway.I just can't see setting up all the equipment for 1 or 2 days, then there is no real social time because everyone is busy prepping Fri,cooking all night long, then busy as heck all saterday and then they leave ! I thinks things would be smoother with later turn-in times ,but hey, what the heck do I know ? ;D
