Arizona Autism Support in conjunction with AZBarbeque are planning our next BBQ Cook-off, which will be held this November. We have made several changes to this event that we believe will be very exciting for everyone. This yearís event will be the inaugural cook-off event of what will become the new Arizona BBQ Circuitís Triple Crown!

We envision the Triple Crown to work like this: There will be a BBQ Cook-off in January of 2008 to kick start the BBQ Competition year.  The Charity for this event, The Turnbow Foundation, helps provide continuing education for single parent families. A Second BBQ Cook-off in the middle of the year either will be in either Northern or Southern Arizona, the location of the event and the associated Charity are still TBD. Finally, our main event in November will end the BBQ Competition year and award the Arizona BBQ Circuitís Triple Crown of BBQ Champion.  All teams that enter a minimum of 2 of these events will be entered into a points system to award trophies, money and acknowledgment, sort of a BBQ Team of the year concept.  We are very optimistic that we can get a big sponsor to come on and underwrite the prize funds for all three of these contests as well as the Team of the Year awards.

We will also be having many other satellite events like ASU tailgates, BBQ Restaurant Crawls, Ribs & Chicken cook-off, Rib-eye cook-off, etc. through out the year to keep the excitement and BBQ Atmosphere going

This will all start off with this year's Southwestern International BBQ Cook-off (Formerly the Lake Pleasant BBQ Cook-off).  The nickname will be Duel in the Desert as this event will be a rare one.  It will be sanctioned by both the IBCA (International BBQ Cookers Association) as well as the KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society).  This has happened only a handful of times in the past, but in essence, it will provide an opportunity for us to do 2 contests at the same time.  We could have 2 separate winners, each could be a qualifier for the Jack Daniels and they each would have a separate prize fund of at least $10,000.  Not only will doing this year's contest this way draw some big names, but it will also give us national recognition in the BBQ world which is what we are looking for.  Being one of the last KCBS contests of the year, any teams that are in the hunt for the KCBS team of the year will certainly try to come out for this event and improve their chances.

The January event will feature a KCBS sanctioned competition as well as a ìTailgate Titleî for sports fans with diverse categories celebrating pre and post game food and drinks.

We have signed an agreement with Rawhide out on the Gila River Indian Community to hold the November and January Cook-offs for the next few years.  This will be a great venue for these contests as it is right off the I-10 and 202 Freeways, it is easily accessible from all over Phoenix, Tucson, Texas, New Mexico and California and they have incredible name recognition.  Rawhide will be open and will provide a great backdrop for the BBQ Cook-offs as well as lots of great entertainment to keep the public interested in our event.

Dates:        November 9th ñ 11th, 2007 at Rawhide ñ Southwestern International BBQ Cook-off
January 25th ñ 27th, 2008 at Rawhide ñ BBQ and Grilling Championship of Arizona

We are very excited about these great developments.  Now we need your help!!  If you know of anyone or any company who would be interested in coming on as a Sponsor, Exhibitor or Vendor, please have them contact us ASAP so we can get them signed up.  This is going to be a great marketing concept for companies to really showcase their community support. We would love your support of all three events.

Arizona Autism Support really needs your help. New statistics have shown that 1 in every 158 kids in Arizona today, have Autism. Worse then that, 40% of those kids have gone undiagnosed! Arizona Autism Supportís mission is to bring information to the rural counties of Arizona and find that lost 40% to get them the treatment and help they need to live a healthy and productive life.

We hope to see you all out at each of these events and look forward to your helping make them successful.

Keep on BBQing.

I think this is great news and just the sort of thing that will help give BBQ in Arizona some national attention.

I've marked the date on my calendar and look forward to being a part of history.

Congratulations on the new events and thank you for the effort it takes to make these things happen.

WOW, this is some great news. What a great job you guys have done. We can now compete all year round!! I have a buddy that works for Budweiser and I'm sure we can get them onboard. Oops, maybe not, Gila Indian Reservation may not like that. What do you think Mike?

Jay, heck yea have him get in touch with us.  We are still working with Rawhide on this, but we most certainly do want to have a beer sponsor this year.

Thanks for the assistance...
