Labor Day weekend 2010

I wish there was a nice competition,somewhere cool,for Labor Day this year.I have looked at the KCBS site,but don't see anything,at least nothing close.This would be a great time of year to get out of the heat and do some BBQ. :)

Not close, but  I'd expect it would be cooler than Arizona.  About the same distance as Mesquite, NV.

 ???  Not a 100% sure where you are getting your distances from, but Mesquite is quite a bit closer than Parker, CO!!

Yeah,Parker would be nice,but something closer would be better.I just left a messga efor Carol Owens in Taylor about the Corn and Ques fest up there,when,or if, she gets back to me I will let everyone know what she has to say.

Ever been to Lake of the Woods in Pinetop/Lakeside? Great place with a private lake so you don't need fishing licenses.

Woods Canyon Lake Group Site

Access: Beeline Hwy to Payson, then Hwy 260 to Rim Country

Woods Canyon Lake offers boating This group site is located just off Woods Canyon Lake, approximately 5 miles north of State Highway 260 on Forest Road 300. Forest Road 300 is located directly across from the Rim Visitor Information Station or 25 miles west of Heber, Arizona.

Elevation:

7,600 feet above sea level.


Season:

Generally May 1 to September 30. Earlier or later depending upon weather.

Group campsite available - Will accommodate up to 70 people.
Tents, trailers and motorhomes up to 32 foot
Rocky Point Picnic Area is nearby
Group campfire grills and 9 picnic tables
Vault toilets & garbage facilities
Drinking water
Boat ramp and launch.
RV sanitary station (near-by)
Gravel roads
Campground Hosts located at nearby Aspen and Spillway Campgrounds.
Fee:   Sitgreaves NF Campground Fee Schedule

Features and Setting:

Woods Canyon Lake is a scenic 52 acre lake surrounded by Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and oak. Woods Canyon Lake offers boating (electric trolling motors only) and fishing opportunities. Interpretative nature trail at the north end of lake. The campground is situated in ponderosa pine, oak, aspen, and Douglas fir.

Notes:

Gas, phone, and groceries are available 10 miles east at Forest Lakes.
Groceries & boat rentals are available at Woods Canyon Store.
Nearest full service community is Payson, AZ, 35 miles west via Hwy 260.
