High Pines Blue Grass Festival and Barbecue, August 18 and 19, 2012

We are working with Mike at Arizona BBQ to bring a sanctioned barbecue competition to the White Mountains of Arizona!

On Saturday and Sunday, August 18th and 19th, 2012, the High Pines Blue Grass Festival will be taking place at the Hon-Dah Resort and Casino and we are looking forward to having a barbecue competition in conjunction with the Blue Grass Festival! We are hoping for more than $5000 in BBQ prize money!

This time of year is usually GREAT at Hon-Dah! At an elevation of about 7200 feet, cool breezes, crisp clean air wafting with the smells of BBQ smoke and good blue grass music... what could be better? Lots to do in Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside and the surrounding forests as well.

This announcement is a bit premature, but I am trying to garner some interest in this barbecue competition among teams and barbecue enthusiasts. So...

Pencil in August 17, 18 and 19, 2012, for the High Pines Blue Grass Festival and Barbecue!

More information, such as web site,  contacts, prize money, fees, vendors and all that stuff, will follow as we progress on preparations for this, (hopefully), annual barbecue event!

Mods: Since this is preliminary, I posted it under BBQ Discussion. Please feel free to edit and move wherever it should be.

Had a great visit today from Mike and George from AZ BBQ to start working on this event. Things are looking good! Lots of work to do in the next 4-5 months but we are excited.

So, Mike and George got a free lunch and after our meeting they left a lot better off, (free dollars), than when they came! Go figure and now I KNOW this event is going to be a good one! The luck is with them! Congrats George!

145 grill will be attending, we are also working with Mike in trying to get an event in the Springerville area in Sept. during the ATV OutLaw Jamboree. I am very happy to see events coming to the area so we don't have to travel so far.

The hardest thing about smoking meat is keeping it lit.

Just took a gander at the ATV Outlaw website, loooking gooood! Looks like tons of fun! The only issues I can see is 1. I don't think Mike's golf cart will work too well out there but I'd love to see him try the mud bog! 2. Will the BBQ teams actually be able to cook?  ::) Many of 'em have ATV's and I can see it now, where's Major Woodys????? Oh, they're out on that hot rod ATV raising heck in the woods so would you be so kind as to toss another hunk of wood on the smoker for 'em? They ought to be back soon!~ :D :D :D :D
Of course those with trailer smokers could just hook 'em up and take them with... ;)

Depends on if they will sanction an event by me.  If so, yes, if not, then BCS!!
