Yep,most of us were there :) I here they are going to have it again this year but it will be a BCS sanctioned event instead of KCBS,should be a great event !
-
It still says 2012.. will there be a App. for the 2013 event?

Yes,but probably not for a few months.
-
i only frrl half stupid :'( :-\
-
The trouble is deciding which half. ;)
-
May want to check with David. I spoke with him a couple weeks ago about this and he said probably not going through it after last year.

I spoke with Rick and yes after the trouble that a couple of teams caused them at Suprise and Scottsdale and some BS KCBS problems they weren't going to do them again this year but,
BCS has worked out a deal with them now, stay tuned good things to come. :)
-
David and Rick like working with people they like. They like the Lopp's and they like Mike. By not going KCBS they will see a lower turnout due to out of state teams not coming. That is not opinion. No offense to anyone but Jack draws, Royal invites and TOY points do become important the moment you realize that you have a chance of being a top 25 or top 50 team and/or realize the Jack and Royal Invitational is not a pipe dream. I will say I love their events and like them so I will do any BBQ event they put on.
Sometimes I wish I had a flux capacitor. I'd load that car up with about 10 people and go back in time.
-
Their (Rick and Davids)events will be Jack qualifiers, but you are right no KCBS points. We had at one time I think 9 or 10 KCBS events in Arizona and then things changed and I have heard alot say they just want to BBQ,I agree, alot of us do,look at all the fun all the teams had at least weekends event, all who attended Springerville had a great time, with no trouble,no drama, nobody calling KCBS,nobody giving the organizer HUGE amounts of headaches and problems,it was fun, like it should be.There are a couple teams, and a couple of people that are actively trying to cause problems with events here in Az,there are several who can back this info up, and that needs to stop or things won't get better in the future I'm afraid.2013 will be scarce for KCBS contests in AZ,and thats sad, cause it was great at one time, but there will still be great contests and alot of great fun and BBQ to be had, just different.I like KCBS,IBCA,BCS,I have had great times at all 3,hopefully in the future there will be more,we have alot of great BBQ teams and BBQ people here in our state :)

My experience with Rick and Dave has always been a notch above excellent. They have bent over backwards to always answer every email, every call and every question. No other promoter / organizer can claim that with me.They have done everything they promised and more things they didn't need to. I will compete in any of their events, regardless of sanctioning body. That being said, they will not get the same number and quality of teams without using KCBS. I don't know the issue(s), and I don't really care. Some teams love to cause trouble, spread rumors, insult others, on this forum and others. I wish they'd go away (not holding my breath). Too bad Rick and David had to experience that. They got caught up in the mix, and it's too bad, because they are the premier event organizer in AZ. Unfortunately, out of state teams and big name teams won't attend because it's not KCBS, that's a fact folks. I know my chances of walking goes down when the big boys play, but I love even more to go head to head with them.
Regardless of BCS, KCBS or even IBCA, we will be there.
-
I would gladly compete in their events weather KCBS or BCS.
-
Can we just BBQ!?!?!? i just started out in this competitive BBQ World and we are HOOKED!!! Sucks to hear about all this drama! hopefully there are more AZ events in the Future..
-
I've spoken with some people and things are getting lined up for next year. The rumors of 3-4 KCBS events in AZ are unfounded and premature. Between BCS and KCBS it sounds like there will be roughly the same number of events as there were this year. Until the applications are up nothing is solid but things are sounding pretty good.
Let's BBQ, have a great time and compete as well as we can.

I 100% agree, all comps are generally good and fun,and the competing is great :) I have been doing these for about 8 years now,I was at the 1st BIG event Mike put on at Lake Pleasant what a time that was :) :) Like the old saying goes,I love BBQ and the comps,I'll be here till I go :)

Last year it was pretty nice. It was cold but there wasn't much wind and there wasn't any rain. That event is in my top 5.

Hey gang,
We're are out of the BBQ competition business for now. Life's just too damn short to deal with the kind of stuff we had to deal with during the last two KCBS comps. I guess having fun isn't part of the rule book.
Yep, Rick had a convo with Mike about a possible BCS comp, but here's one thing we know for sure: we're going to focus on doing what we do best: produce a killer event for tons of people. The date's May 4th. It's the 4th Annual Arizona Barbecue Festival. Some of you just received the vendor forms from Salt River Fields, but the overall details of the event have yet to be announced. I can guarantee you'll want to save the date - not nec to compete, but to come see what we've got planned.
No doubt we're going to miss watching you all duke it out for big money, but to be honest, we'd rather just take that money and buy you a beer. It's not only cheaper, it's a hell of a lot more fun.
Thx!
Rick & Tyda

Well, that SUX,I hope the teams and individuals who ruined this event are happy now  Thanks Dave and Rick for the fun times we did have, sorry some people had to ruin it for others.Maybe in the future things will change. :)
-
Rick and David, you guys throw some amazing events and I have to admit I'm really sad to see your competitions go away. They were epic and I always loved the fact that out of all the promoters out there, you blatantly are out to make money. I LOVE that. That mindset brought midget wrestlers, great bands, lots of teams being invited to be in tv spots, hot girls walking in high heels on soft grass, an awesome whiskey tent, hordes of people, a social event to rival the best in phoenix, phenomenal prize money, the first free entry for a BBQ comp with $40k in prize money, a free bottle of tequila for showing up, a great meal on Friday night with roasted pig tacos, etc. You guys are a class act and I've always held you in the highest regard as promoters and as people. I wish you all the luck in the world with your event.
-
I'm soooo freaking depressed now. You guys are the best show in town. Damn....!
-
Sheesh, Scott makes us want to do it again! Man, all that stuff sounds awesome! Who knows what the future holds gang. And Scott, thanks a million for the compliments - Rick said he saw you at the Taco Fest, but he's not sure you were able to focus and see him ;)
-
LOL,you guys should get on some meds for that

I am also very bummed to see this go Rick an Dave. I competed in your event last yearand it was my first event. I don't know if it was not for the free entry I would have pulled the trigger and joined the comp. From that point not only myself, but friends and family have been hooked. I have since competed several times improving each time. Your event was outstanding with all you two offered above and beyond a comp. Your events were true events and that brought people out that I could have never brought out for just a BBQ comp. I hope you reconcider doing this in the future, if so I am there.
-
David,
Lorie and I will continue to support you by helping out again at the taco fest and will see you back at SRF in May...
-
Thank you all for the kind words!
-
I have an idea..have another competition, and when someone starts whining about pissy stuff, take a hose over to their unit, put out the fire, tell 'em to go somewhere else...
Kind of like driving on the freeway...If you don't want to do freeway speeds, get the ehll off the freeway...
