Thinking about selling my WSM, advice needed.

So i have been thinking about selling my WSM, and grabbing an XL egg.    The WSM is kind of a pain in the ass to use, if you want to utilize the bottom rack, i usually cook quite a bit at once, and really need the second rack..  I feel like the EGG would be easier to use in this aspect, being as i could just have the second rack, above the main rack, and still have access to everything on the first level.

I also like the egg is a bit bigger, and (to me atleast) less of an eyesore..

If anyone has any thoughts, comments, or opinions, let me know?  I am open to other smokers, beyond the BGE, so feel free to post any recommendations.

Thanks-

Might want to consider the Pro Q Excel 20.  A lot of us use them and some of us even compete on them as well.  The Pro Q's really allow you to access that second level without any issues at all.  Makes it a lot easier (in that respesct and in my opinion) than the WSM's.

Thanks for your input..  I am trying to figure this out asap, so i can try and grab one of those demo eggs if i choose..

I will check out that Pro Q.

I dont really need the ability to grill, as i have a gas grill for that, but it would be nice to be able to cook some steaks, etc on the egg.

I see the pro q is fairly similar to the WSM.  Is it easier to access the second grate, because of that access door?

Yes. That, and you can adjust the volume of air mass you're trying to heat up by adding or removing stackers. Depending on how much you're cooking, you can use from zero to three stackers. I have used all three. Once. I like mine.

Yes the door does helps, but we actually just remove the different section to get to the meat.  One of the nice features on the Pro Q's are that the sections latch together so that you can get to your each individual grate level.

Thanks for the help guys..  Honestly, pulling stacks off to get to the lower grates, still seems like more then i want to deal with..  Id rather just be able to reach in, and be able to sauce, spray, etc..  Wish i could get an FEC 100..lol

In that case, I'd suggest an oven.  They work great too.   :D

The problem isn't temp control..  It is just a lack of functionality for my situation..  I think something like an egg would better suit me..

It sounds like you already have your mind made up on the egg but you could try this link.

Maybe just add the the big green egg grate extension...save a bunch of money. ;)

The XL BGE is great for a variety of cooking plans.  I have always said, if I could only have one cooker it would be a ceramic.  Pizza is great,  Steaks at 600 degress, with a chunk of pecan, yum.  Want to do a butt or brisket, you can do that too.

that said, they are not too portable.   I used to take the XL to comps, but I am down to the FEC and a drum.

Why not just add to your cookers, just in case you need more space for a bigger cook.
