Has anyone had any problems with the on/off switches on their MAVERICK et-73's?

the on/off switch has broken twice for me. I called Maverick and they replaced the unit both times. The switch is flimsy and susceptible to failure but maverick does stand behind their product. I just wish they would fix the problem by installing a stronger switch.

If you are disappointed (like me) and frustrated (like me) with the on-off switches, inconsistent drop-out readings, and limited-range problems with your Maverick ET-73 Probe Thermometer, you'll be glad to learn about the upgraded performance of the NEW 2nd Generation Maverick ET-732 Digital Remote Probe Thermometer Set.

The new ET-732 functions like the ET-73 but with several important upgrades to its performance!!

Features of the New Maverick ET-732 Digital Remote Probe Thermometer

1. The new unit provides functions similar to the ET-73 and comes complete with a Receiver, Transmitter, and two probes - one for the food temp and one for the cooking temp of the smoker.

2. The new on/off switch is now located on the outside of the transmitter and is NOT in the battery compartment!

3. The style of the on/off switch on both the receiver and transmitter has changed. The switch is now a button. You simply press and hold the button for 3 seconds to turn each device on or off.

4. The receiver now has a memory feature. The temperatures you set during your last cook are now stored in the unit.  When you turn off the receiver unit and then turn it on later, those last temperatures are still programmed in.

5. The usable signal range (between the transmitter and the receiver unit) is guaranteed to be at least 300 ft. (thanks to the new external antennas).

6. The "alert" functions are still the same as before for both the food probe and the smoker probe. You can easily set your target food temp alert and a high/ low cooking temp alert for the smoker compartment.

7. Count up/ Count down time feature functions similar to the ET-73.  Last times used are saved in memory.

8. The receiver back-light feature has been improved. The back-light is now an orangy/red color that brightens the entire screen for use at night or in low-light conditions.

9. The stand, belt clip, & grill clip all remain the same as the ET-73.

10. The ET-732 receiver can now display temperatures up to 572 degrees F as opposed to the ET-73 that displays temperatures up to 410 degrees F.

11. The food probe and smoker probe can now withstand heat up to 716 degrees F. The length of the flex-cable attached to each probe remains the same as the ET-73.

12. The flex-cable weave has been beefed up for more durability and its junction with the probe now has less susceptibility to moisture leaking in there and causing damage to the temp sensor.

Well, I was going to mention the Taylor digital thermometers I use at about $20 each, but there's too much good to beat that...Taylors are good to 392 degrees F, and cheap enough to buy a bunch, so you've got one for each of several meats and one or 2 for various grates. But no remote, and some have stubborn switches. And the probes, at $5-$8 for replacement are cheap, but not as sturdy as the Mavericks sound.
But if you're on a tight budget, or you need a couple spares, they're worth the $!

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!
