Coin-op car wash. High-pressure rinse. Middle of the night is preferred, or you'll get some dirty looks from the operators.

I know every car wash in the state and know which have the best pressure. The key I have found is to clean as soon after an event as possible before the grime feels at home and does not want to leave.

I treat my grates like a nice set of Dutch Ovens by starting with fresh steel and seasoning with oil and heat and keep them cleaned, (not scoured) then seasoned for their next use.

For my home grill I clean my grates the best I can and once a month put them in my self clean oven for a few hours and they come out like new ready to be seasoned again.

Like they said, a coin op car was when the owners/operators are not there or one that does not have someone there on a regular basis.

The sooner you can clean it after using it, the better.  If it is still hot and everything is still in liquid form, it makes it much much easier.

It takes me about $10 - $20 to clean mine when I do..  Well worth it though..

mostly the grills I use a power washer cold water between each cooking days

I use a metal scraper for the inside when ever needed, around every 5 cooking days

I saw a blow torch adaptor which is supposed to be made for cleaning grills, but never tried it!

Timm,
I am sure it would work fine if yuo let it set a an hour or two. Where I live, I can't put chemical in the ground... I'll get shot ::)

PLEASE , no oven cleaner- you want to retain alot of the seasoning that you have spent years creating, plus no toxins!!!!
