Hello, I'm a newbie to this site and to smoking.  I want to get into smoking for a resonable price.  I've heard that the 18.5 WSM is a good one.  I just want something for a beginner.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks

If you're in the Phoenix area, stop by and see the guys at BBQ Island. They're across from IKEA at Warner and I-10. They just opened an expansion dedicated to smokers. Let them know you're from AZBarbeque and they'll treat you right.

Welcome aboard, glad you found us. The 18.5 WSM is a great smoker. I've had one for over 20 years. The thing is, there are cheaper units out there. But, within six months you'll be looking for something better. See the guys at BBQ Island, let them know you're a member of this board, and they'll give you a great discount on a WSM. It's either pay alittle now and more within six months. Or bite the bullet and get something that will last. Just an opinion from an opinionated person. ;D ;D

I 'aven't got one yet, but Harry Soo and Vince Carrocci/Alexa Fairbairn (Both spelled without assistance!!) seem to do OK. They're Slap Yo' Daddy BBQ of Pitmasters, and Rhythm 'n' Que, and between them, they've won nearly everything out west twice. With a little looking, you can find a WSM new for under $300.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

I hear the pro-q's are comparable to the wsm's.

Close.

I am in the process of building a few more UDSs (ugly drum smokers)...if can find a cheap food grade or new barrel they are pretty easy to make and very efficient.
