What type of adaptor did you order from John, when getting the stoker.
I use mine on my Stump's so I have the Stump's adaptor.  So to use on the Drum, I just got a 1 1/2 adaptor from the hardware store.  It slides right into the valve.

It works very well for me.

Is there a need for the Stoker?  I have almost no temperature variation once I get it settled in.

Though I will admit, I don't sleep over a few hours just to be sure.

As to Smokewagon's "smoke" comment...yes, you need chunks and not sticks or logs or the smoke can overwhelm.  I actually used to top rack on the one of mine that has one. Two do not and are flat top, 1 does with a Weber Kettle lid.  I will say, I like the overall result of the brisket bark better from the top rack.  Just 6 - 8 inches makes a difference on the intensity of the heat.

Is ther a need for a Stoker???  Um, No.  But is there a need for power windows in a car, again.  No.

I just like toys and the stoker works well.  ;D

Toys is right....sleep is good.  The stoker will assure me that.

When I ordered it there wasn't an indication I could state what i was using it for.....I guess i should try to call him tomorrow although I bet it will be here tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

As for the wood, I used chunks instead of the larger logs I burn in my offset.  I still think it was too much....Maybe next time just one instead of 2.....

In my UDS I use lots of little chucks of wood spread through out the charcoal...like maybe 2 to 3 fingers wide and about a finger long.  Seems to work pretty well and I can very the amount of smoke to suit whom ever will be eating the Q.

I so need to paint mine...mine lives up to the UDS name for sure.
azkitch...when you gonna build you one?  I have the barrel about all we will need is some expanded metal and a few screws/bolts/washer!
Bought XpMetal today. Making a basket for SnP and a basket for a future BDS. I have a few screws, but I've been told they're loose...I think the XMetal might be stainless. If it is, I stole it. I got a 2X4 chunk from Davis Salvage on Washington for $15--it's #9 I believe, and flattened. I'm making a 14+ X 8 ring for a UDS, and a 14X14X5 basket for the SnP. I have a pizza pan for an ash catcher in the VDS--Vertical (I keep changing its name for fun!) but I'll need another chunk of XM for the bottom of the ring and for 2 sides of the SnP box. This weekend I'm gonna fiddle with the truck, see if I can get it past emissions. Fuel system won't stay pressurized. Hrmmph. Any way, I'll get another hunk of XM soon. 14X8 or 9 or so ring good for you?

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

I called late last week about the stoker adapter.  Everything was fine becuase they were on back order.  I should get it tomorrow or Tuesday I was told.  Ultimately it sounds like I will need to make a few modification for the stoker to hook up to the UDS.  I will post some pics when I get it here and figure it out this week.

Colt, how much for some of that expanded metal? My SNP needs a new fire grate.
