Nothing beats Geno's East. That's a must have when I go to Chicago. Don't get me wrong. New York thin crust is good too. Two totally different styles and I love them both.

There are more than a few places where you can get a Chicago fix. Pizzeria Uno, Windy City Sliders and Luke's Italian Beef.  I loved going to the Taste Of Chicago.  :P And I'm a big fan of Chicago dogs over NY's dirty water dogs like Sabrett's.

Speaking of Italian Beef sangwiches, Al's is coming to the Valley soon.

Mark, you know I hold you in the highest regard I can for an online stranger but Luke's?  C'mon, not even close.  Chicago Gyros has restaurants in Arcadia, Union Hills/7th Ave. and someplace by Arrowhead.  Closest I've come to the great food stands back home.  Pizzeria UNO??  I think you need to visit my booth at Pulte, though I'll have to figure out how I can bake a pizza without an oven  ???
And Taste of Chicago...I'd slap you if I could Mark....that's just NOT fair to bring that up. Taste of Chicago is the consummate food festival and all others pale in comparison.  At least in my experience
Alas, if only the weather didn't suck so much in Chicago......

For my Chicago fix I go to Guido's near Scottsdale and Shea. Anyone ever been there? They have a great little market with fresh meat, pasta, etc. and a restaurant in there also. My dad was born in Chicago and I still have a lot of family in Brookfield. I went to Boot Camp at Great Lakes Navy station. Every time I go back to visit it's Geno's East for me. I don't think Guido's does deep dish pizza but they are holding it down on Chicago style eats!!

does the dough make a nice flat thick crust pizza as well?

Though I've not tried, I don't think that it would Jim.  This is more of a cornmeal crust vs. a flour crust for most other pizza and it's on the oily side so it crisps up in the pan to stand up to the ingredient load.  Who knows, worth a try I guess!!

Tracy, have you been to the real Lukes which is in Tucson. That's the father, the stores up here are a break away faction of the children. No comparison of the original. And yes, it's not Chicago, but not bad for Arizona.

No.  I try to avoid Tucson, it seems I have nothing but bad experiences when I go down there.  If I do find myself going there for some reason I'll give Luke's a try.

Some of the most fun I ever had was going to Pizza Expo in Vegas. Pizza restaurants from mom & pop's to Pizza Hut would attend. Thin crust. Thick crust. Deep dish. Pepperoni suppliers. Liquor, wine and beer distributors. Pizza oven manufacturers. You name it and it was there. Hundreds of exhibitors giving out samples and freebies. I was with the management group from Peter Piper and we had entry badges that we would all share. I 'd forget my name was "Ralph" or whatever until someone would say it to me several times before I realized they were talking to me. But I did come home with a bagful of freebies and a bellyful of pizzas. :P

Here's when the next one is: http://www.pizzaexpo.com/
