I just joined the group. My handle is "foodbme" and my real name is Jim Clark. I live in Gilbert AZ. I've been BBQin' since Eisenhower was President! Rain, Shine, Sleet or Snow- No Problem! ;D I started with Charcoal but switched to propane in 1973. I'm still using the same grill that I bought then even though I've rebuilt all the innards 5 or 6 times. It's a Kenmore Built By Arkla. I don't think Arkla is even in business anymore but they built a terrific Cast Aluminum Grill! The reason I keep it is because it has a large and separate oven section where I can cook a 20# Turkey or Ham on a Rotisserie. Using indirect heat, I have the ability to add smoke very easily. When I die it's going in the box with me so I can cook for friends and family when I get to Heaven---Well, some of them. Some of them won't be going there! >:D >:D :-\
I would like to join someone's Competition Cooking Team to get the Competition experience before striking out on my own. If anyone needs a teammate, please contact me.

I went on my first BBQ Crawl today with my wife and two friends. It was great. First stop was Appetites on Indian School in Avondale, just east of Dysart Rd. They serve KC style which is not my favorite style of Que because of the overly sweetness of the sauces but they do have excellent KC Style Que if that's what you like. I had Hot Links and they were excellent along with baked beans that were also very good.  Our friends had the Pulled pork and it was also very good. Next stop Highway 28 on Olive Rd and 51st Av in Glendale. I was full from the 1st stop, so I had a Soul Food Veggie Plate - Gollard Greens, Blackeyed Peas & Mac & Cheeese. These were true to their Soul Food roots and done just right. My wife and 1 friend had Shrimp, Potato Salad & Corn.that was also very good. My other Friend had NC Style Que and it too was true to it's roots along with the Vinegar Sauce and Cole Slaw. Both places are authentic to their particular style of Que and get high marks. The Door Prizes were AWESOME! I never expected to see such great prizes from a free event. I'll certainly look forward to being an active member of the group. Should be fun! ;D :) :P ^-^

Jim,

It was great meeting you and your group today, we were glad you joined us for our 3rd Annual AZBarbeque BBQ Crawl/Social.  I really enjoyed talking with all of you and feel we made some great friends today.

Welcome to the site, we are very glad to have you here and look forward to seeing you at many more of our events.

As for the competition cooking, you are more than welcome to join the AZBarbeque team for any of our events.  We don't hold anything back, so you will get quite a learning experience, but will come away hooked on competition cooking.

That BBQ of yours sounds very interesting.  Do you have any photos of it, I would love to see what it looks like.

Once again, great to meet you today and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

WELCOME

Regards,

Mike

THANX! Mike,
It's obvious you do a great job of running the AZBarbeque Group. If I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to call or email. I'm a novice at digital cameras, but if I can figure it out I'll post a picture of my BBQ Soulmate, my wonderful Grill. I was concerned that I didn't registar properly, but it looks like everything is OK. When it comes to Technology, I'm roaring into the 19th Century! ??? :o
