I was hoping maybe I could get a little feed back. I am looking to get a set and forget type smoker and have narrowed my decision down between Traeger, FEC100 or Cookshack Amerique. Any opinions or help would be much appreciated. I know to most the set and forget style is not true Barbecue but I'm a lazy ass.

Thanks Tim

Hey Tim,  Everyone has there own opinion (a lot of them on this site).  My suggestion, if you haven't do so yet, go to BBQ Island in Tempe (one of our sponsors) and talk with them.  They have a large selection and are nice people to talk to and will give you good advise.  Also mention this site and they may give you a discount.l

Thanks Bernie. I actually was just there yesterday. I talked to a guy named Shelton I believe. Very cool guy who seemed to know his stuff. He gave me as much info as he could toward each unit but didn't push me toward one or the other, which I appreciate because he easily could have hard sell me on the $3800 FEC over the $1000 Traeger.

New!
Welcome Tim. Not a fan of Traeger, MADE IN CHINA. I have a Louisiana Grill that BBQ Island carries. Wouldn't trade it for anything. The FEC 100 is good, but how much BBQ are planing on making. Sheldon is a great guy that has always treated board members great, and they give board members a nice discount. Good luck with your choice.

I just purchased my second Traeger 075 Tex.  These grills are excellent.  NO PROBLEMS, just great Q!   I have a brand new, never used Pro Q Excel 20 w/stacker, cover, etc. that I will sell cheap.

After using a $50 elec. smoker from Wal-Mart for 20 years I went with the Traeger 075 Tex and have never looked back. The only think I don't like about Traeger is there pellets. I think they use a lot of filler. Wasn't getting much smoke flavor or ring. Switch to Epps Farms at BBQ Island. Getting much better smoke flaver and smoke ring. They give us a great price on 40lb bags also. Just let them know your a member of the site.

I don't eat vegetables. The meat I eat, eats vegetables.

I like the way JM--Mark Crigler--thinks. As long as you're looking at BBQ I, check out the Louisiana Grills. Or buy my Brinkmann for $125.
Yeah, right.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!
