There is a BBQ comp next weekend in Surprise... There will be over 30 comp teams out there. Could be a great resource for you.

I really think it is a primal thing. Meat & fire. Plus it's a Pavlovian thing for me. Can't smoke meat without an adult beverage in hand and sports on the patio TV. 8)
