we have been using real Montana charcoal for the past 2 years and all i can tell you is the stuff is amazing.
you can use apple lump and will not need to use any wood for flavor.
they are listed on the naked wiz review site if you would like to see additional comments.
not sure how expensive it would be to ship but if you are doing a comp its well worth the money.
just my 2cents

I've read the nakedwhiz review, and followed the link. Sounds like great stuff. I'd love to try it someday. My address is 146...yeah, right.

I tried, went instantly to "This link appears to be broken". Link on nakedwhiz is to realmontana.net. There is http://www.realmontanacharcoal.com/ that says "coming soon."

I just tried, and had to go to realmontana.net. Whatever works. And they have a distributor called Starlight here on Central near Dunlap. I e-mailed them, urging them to come here--and sponsor!!

To expensive to have shipped here. I emailed them and it's $22.50 per 20 lbs. Much cheaper by the pallet, but since I cant afford a pallet...anyway, hopefully I got bbq outfitters (local Q shop) to check em out. They already carry ozark oak. Would like to pick flavored wood. The only negative naked whiz had to say was the charcoal was under carbonized...since I will be using in an offset stick burner...I see it as a benefit...no need for flavored chunks. I could just burn 50/50 apple and cherry and get call it a day.

This stuff is really good.  I used to carry it when I had Smokin' Cholla, a very small store.  The apple, black hawthorne, and maple are great.  If I'm remembering correctly, the cost is right around $20 by the time a pallet is shipped.

I happen to be home right now (MT) and will look for it at a couple of stores. If I have room on my moving truck I'll try and bring some back....

Hey AZScott, I see that Smokincholla is listed as a distrubutor but you said when I used to own it. Does that mean it is no longer open?

Correct.  Between a full time job, a new wife, a new house, and no funds to make it what it needed to be to succeed I closed it up.  One hell of a learning experience and I was able to meet some great people along the way.

I saw Starlight mentioned as a carrier of RMC.  They are good people and last I knew they do carry it but that was a while back.  I'd be willing to go in on a pallet of the stuff if anyone ever wants to go in on it.  The break for a store / dealer isn't huge but it would give us a cost of around $22 a 20# box shipped.  Shipping from small town Montana is pretty high.

I'm originally from Montana and still have family there. If I can ever get any of them to make the drive down here, I'll see if they can't bring us some!
