Lump Charcoal Newbie Question

After I'm done cooking and there is big chunks of charcoal leftover, what is the best way to try to salvage those chunks when they are still hot? Hopefully that wasn't a stupid question and that it makes sense.

Close all of the vents on your smoker or grill to suffocate the fire.

What STEVE said, or like i do - i have a galv. metal trash can a nd i empty my coal and ashes in there and put the lid on that way my pit or grill is empty and ready to go!

Shut the vents. In a day or two, you can dump the ash. Any unburned charcoal can be reused.
