Has any one tried using FIG wood in their cooker, if so how did it work?
A co-worker of mine has some trimmings from his Fig Tree.

I grew up with fig trees and they have a soft pulpy wood and a skin-irritating milky sap. I've never smoked with fig, but I would imagine that it would not be very suitable.

But it is on several charts: http://www.deejayssmokepit.net/Downloads_files/SmokingFlavorChart.pdf

IIRC, I've seen it on others, too.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

I just pruned some pistachio branches this morning. The texture of the wood surprised me because it was quite similar to fig, even in its elephant gray color. But fig has an Elmer's glue-like sap that gets you itchy upon contact. This list recommends pistachio shells but doesn't mention the wood. I guess that is because its uncommon.

I want pistachio!! All the pistachio I've found has a red heart surrounded by white wood, and is quite hard. And tastes exquisite when used for smoking!

I have a fig tree I cut down last year.  I'm on 3 acres, so didn't get rid of it.  It is just sitting out in the desert, seasoning.  Anyone in Tucson want to try some, let me know.  I am on the far eastside.

I would not recommend Fig tree wood for any smoking or grilling, I would be worried about the latex/sap, it can be a real skin irritant as well as the leaves......just not a good cooking wood in my opinion
