Since these two new joints in Chandler are only a few steps from each other, it will be interesting to see if they both can generate enough customers to survive.

Right. You can actually crawl from one to the next. I wonder who was the chicken or the egg who signed that second lease? ::)

Rudy's will be the winner.  They have a very loyal following and put out some quality BBQ in Texas and a couple other states.  Can't Stop Smokin' has a rough name, mixed reviews, and they don't have the expansion experience yet far from home.  Rudy's will kill it in that location right next to IKEA.

You've obviously never been to a Rudy's...I don't recall ever visiting one that wasn't packed (been to one in Austin, Albuquerque, and Colorado Springs)...even at 10:00 at night on a Monday night. I doubt it'll be much different with the one they open here.

As far as the other place, it might have been a smart move if they turn out a decent product. If the wait at Rudy's is insane, like I've seen at times, they can probably survive just on the overflow of people who don't want to wait.

I don't understand what IKEA has to do with it since it is about 3 miles away??

I actually have been to Rudys in Austin 2 times,it was full, not packed, but thats beside the point,it's foolish putting 2 of the same type of resteraunts right next to each other,I guess we will see in about a year who is still there.

They do it all the time...burger places, Mexican food, Italian food, bars...why not BBQ? Hell...that's kind of the norm in Texas.

I agree that being across the street or catercorner seems to be a marketing strategy for lots of Chicken Houses and fast food eateries. If you have good food and better than the large chain one can benefit from their larger advertising and location next door.

Rudy's has deep pockets they will outlast. They will do more than their share. I will be trying them out to see if they are on their game. :) :P

Do miss my regular trips to Rudy's in Norman, OK and Denton, TX... Not sure why, but I always have their jalepeno sausage.... If you are a Rudy's virgin, be careful... The trough by the bathroom is for hand washing, not relieving yourself... It is a tough lesson to learn, from what I hear.... :D
