Funny! I'll try it. I'm entertained by the idea of folks using scrap lumber to get by. A few years ago someone was selling alligator juniper as smokewood. And yes, it tasted exactly as advertised. :-X :-[ I appreciate Long Wong's sense of adventure and zigging while others zag. It will probably taste like a disaster, but what the hell. Go for it! 8) They do have the Home Depot nearby. I wouldn't be surprised if a few hunks of plywood find their way into the mix. By the way, if you are ever there, check out El Super next door. very much in the vein of Food City and Ranch Market (now in receivership.) El Super carrying my wife's favorite baked goods ever. I think they call them Manteqilladas. (Or something close to that.) Kind of a puff pastry dough tucked into a muffin pan and topped with a biscuit dough. Unlike anything I've ever had and worth the drive to try out. ;) super cheap loss leaders on produce and freaky-deaky cuts of meat as well. ;D

That pine really caught me by surprise. Mesquite I can live with but pine? After some further research there are some mentions of pine in oooooooold recipes. Here's an interesting discussion:

I'd give it a try if I had an offset to use that wasn't mine.

Wow! That's really interesting, Scott. Black Forest ham is good stuff. I've eaten the real deal in the Black Forest, along with the obligatory schwarzwalder kirschtorte.

That alligator juniper made meat taste and smell a  bit like gin. So maybe pine will give a hint of Pine-Sol? ;)

me and my wife stopped in to see what they had, i live right down the street so its on the way to everywhere.
we got out of the car and was met by the hint of smoke (and in a good way) the place is some what cool, in the fact of the dinning room is shack style open aired kinda, its inclosed with screen and you do have privacy but no ac i don't thing, and that might be trouble
for them in the next few months as the temps get higher. But they are in need of a lot of work on the Que. and had no idea they were
using PINE wood, now i'm no pit master and the family are now spoiled on my style that i learned on here and books. but i didn't feel any love
in the meat to say EAT ME. not to sure what kinda special rub it is that they are using but had no idea they even used any until i read the article in the paper. not much on selections either no sample platter ,no smoked sausage, they do have a sweet hot link, and the sides i'm not sure if they are home made but would probably say not (I COULD BE WRONG)the best thing going for them are the prices. so i would say enter at your own risk

We use Australian Pine out here for smoking fish.  Technically, it's not a true pie though.
