So I was just recently in Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL. I wish I could relate the qualtity off BBQ I found there. A buddy and I ate at a place called Speedy Pig outside Atlanta which had pulled pork that was unreal. When you buy a pulled pork plate, it's automatically all you can eat. So they just keep bringing it until it hurts to move. It was a small mom and pop place thats been there for over 50 yrs. Just unreal, and Brunswick Stew that knoocks you socks off!. Also ate at Dreamland BBQ in Birmingham......couldn't believe the smell when we walked thru the door. The two of us (both bbq guys) literally ordered ONE of everything. It was a feast for the eyes. It took us several beers and a few hours to make a good dent, but we eventually rolled out back to the hotel. You should always make the most out of something that you may never have a chance to do again. I've been blessed w/ a job that has allowed me to travel, and BBQ is high on the list about everywhere we go. But Speedy Pig and Dreamland were off the hook!

Damn, now I need to eat....

Great recap.  Wish I was into BBQ when I used to travel for a living, it sure would have made the traveling a whole lot more fun.

Keep the recaps coming and if you get a chance, take some photos of these adventures.  Would love to see these places.  ;)

New!
We used to live north of Atlanta and Speedys was well known! We had a mission which was to try and find a different bbq place at least twice a month. We focused on the hole in the wall joints (except Corky's memphis bbq who we love to this day).  Speedys and some others use that "all you can eat" as a draw and then most people fill up on the bread and soda so don't really eat all that much meat, win/win for all!

We found a place in Tennesse that does absolutely NO advertising, has a sign about the size of a real estate sign out on the corner of the road they're on and has very limited parking except on the shoulder of a curvey road. It has to be some of the BEST down and dirty bbq I've eaten in quite a while.
I'll come back to this and post a couple of pic's once I find 'em on my drive... Found 'em!
This is the place..

These two sheds are where the smokers are and are about 200 yards from the actual restaurant

This is the road in front of the place

This is how they get the meat from smoker to kitchen, they told me they go through about 600 lbs a day.

I had dinner last night out on Long Island at a Smokin Al's BBQ.  Small place in the little strip mall.  The ribs rocked.  Baby Backs, Spares, and Beef were out of sight.  The brisket and pork were average, but would definitely comeback for the ribs again.  If your in the area give it a try.
