Title: My new WSM
Post by: salty_jenkins on April 23, 2010, 04:42:00 pm
I just got my new WSM and I'm new to the whole thing.  Is it normal to have smoke coming from the door and all the cracks between the parts? I'm just wondering if there is something I can do to make the WSM more airtight or if this is the way it should be.  Thanks

Season it. Just a brun of charcoal & wood. Then a couple of cooks ought to seal it nicely.

Like Kris said - once you build up some good "seasoning" inside her she will be fine.

Well, except for the door maybe.

Mine leaks heavily form the door still, because it is not perfectly formed, and is flimsy material.

I wrap bungees around it to seal it right up.

Yep, a cajun bandit door is on the to get list eventually.   But dangit the bungee cord works great.
