Title: My 4 yearold's first BBQ of her own PICS of course!

I've been wanting to get my daughter involved with BBQ for sometime but I haven't been sure about how she would do keeping her attention. I figured I couldn't go wrong with a WSJS (Weber Smokey Joe Silver) and I was right! I happened to be at Ace hardware for some quick home repair stuff and saw the little Joe on the rack with no price tag. They guys looked all through the system for the price and finally just said $17.99 to which I immediately said SOLD! I had a $5 off next purchase and the cashier gave me another $5 off making the little grill $7! SCORE!!! They dusted the little guy off, got me all the paperwork but couldn't find a box.

So after my 4 year old daughter woke up from her nap, I gave it to her to which she says, "I want you to build me a bigger one!" (that's my girl!)

I then spent the next few minutes showing her all the parts and how they all worked. How to light a proper fire and how to tell when the coals were ready.

We threw some hotdogs and cheddar brats on for something simple to teach her how to cook'em. She really had fun and wanted to be involved in putting the meat on, rolling them around, and "daddy can we peek on them?" lol!

She followed up the cook with the "horns of rock" and said "that was awesome!" Next on her list to cook she says is "corn, a pig, cow, and chicken." No lie!

That's awesome, great pictures & recap.  Can't wait to see her competing in the Kids Q events.  Way to get her involved..  ;)

Great story. Hooked thru the gills at 4. If that ain't child abuse!! No beer til 18--I grew up in MD, beer and lt. wine at 18. They changed the law the year I turned 21! By the time she's 21, she'll be writing barbeque books about how they used to do it in the old days before warp cookers. ;D

I haven't been able to get her back into wanting to cook again though. I'll just take it easy and let her come back to it on her own. She does want to watch me when I'm running the weber and she loves to put any seasonings on. Thinking I may build another mini and paint it Pink just for her.

That is awesome! I have been letting my kids help me prep the meat for the smoker and they love it. Good to start them young! ;D ;D

I guess I missed this the first time it came around, but I love how the little Smokey Joe looks like it's the perfect size for the playhouse in the background!  I wish my parents had gotten me into actual cooking when I was a kid, my husband would probably be a lot happier!   :laugh:
