Merging a Weber with a Brinkman's - Can it be done

I was considering sticking my Weber on the side of my Brinkman's and using the Weber for a firebox.  The questions that come to mind are a) can I cut the hole to attach them with a saber saw? b) how big should the hole be, c) can I just bolt them together and ultimately d) will the whole thing work?

The inflow will obviously be at the bottom of the Weber.  There is no chimney on my Brinkman's, just vents on each side of the lid. (along with two vents on each side of the bottom)

Reasons I'd be doing it are a) I'm an idiot with more time than sense, b) more meat cooking area in the Brinkman's and c) can tend the fire without messing around with the meat.

Be interested in your opinions.  Thanks.

Which cookers are you talking about? I don't see messing up a kettle to make a smoke n' pit, which can be bought for around a buck fifty. Do you have your design drawn up?

A.) Which Brinkmann?
B.) Porcelain coating on Weber Grill a B!t@h to mess with.
C.) You won't be able to use your Weber again.
I use my Weber fairly regularly, and I also have a Uniflame. Sometimes I use them to pre-burn logs because they smoke so much when starting. Especially before I made my drum smoker. I would look to find a drum, or an offset on Craigslist before I'd try to marry 2 such dis-similar units. Who knows--someone on here may be selling my--er--his offset unit. If he ever re-assembles it from painting the firebox.
On the other hand, if you put your mind to it, there's nothing stopping you. Look what Red Green builds!

Post pics! We love graphic visual aids! There are a couple different ways to add pictures. Just fiddle about, and modify the posts til it comes together.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

What Dave said. Watch Craigslist, there is always something on there. If you don't find what you want, wait a few days, it'll show up.

Thanks for the replies.  Forgot about the porcelain thing, maybe I'd better give it some more thought.  Plans?  We don't need no stinking plans!

Here's one on Craigslist, you can probably get it cheaper than what they're asking. Get a wire brush and some hi temp paint at home depot. Just like new. If you're looking to get into smoking with a stick burner, this could be a pretty cheap way to start. There are alot of members on here with stick burners that can answer question you'd have. Good luck.

Judging by the leg design, it's probably a char-griller, like the ones for sale at Lowe's and HD. Thinner metal but still get the job done. I wonder if they were using the cooking chamber as a grill, leaving the firebox alone! That was what my Brinkmann was doing before I rescued it. I bent a piece of #9 X 3/4 expanded metal up at both ends--it's about 13X23, bent about 4" at each end up, shoved it into the FB, and I have a great grate! Several fully loaded burns with lump getting the cooking chamber over 300 hasn't hurt the ExMet at all. Pretty scary stuff! I originally bought a large piece to make a charcoal box for my UDS, and that was what I trimmed off. And I don't recommend cutting 4 feet of expanded metal with a dremel. Tedious! Nice sparky show, though...

DAVE, in a pinch you can stack your ecb on top of your weber and use it like a uds ! seal any leaks with foil and play with your temps, etc. Once your dialed in it works a whole lot better than a ecb!!

Okay Pat, you have to remember who you're dealing with.  ECB?  Extra Crispy Bacon?  External Charcoal Brilliance?  Eat Chicken Buddy?  I'm still buying the books for BBQ 101.  :D

Eat chicken, buddy! I like that one!! Extra crust on Brisket? Pat is thinking you have the "R2D2" type Brinkmann smoker.
