Yea, really, remember what happened to Big John after Stagecoach.

Stay and get your rest, then head home on Sunday.  Safe and sound...

Yea, I talked with him last week.  He was able to salvage the smoker off of his old rig and he has it on a stand alone trailer until his new one is built, so he is still in business.

He said he will be down at the November competiton competing, so that's great news.

Support the businesses who support your events, otherwise the events dont happen.

The Taylor contest has picked up a local sponsor who runs a butcher shop in Snowflake. He says that he will keep the prices on the meat down for those of you who are in town for the contest. I understand that its very easy to run up to Smart & Final to get your meats but please consider giving him a call and see if you guys are able to get your meats from him. He is about five minutes from the contest site.

Great find Aaron.  Hey all, if you are cooking at this competition, what better place to get your meats that up there locally.  Not only will you get the freshest meats, but you will also be supporting a local business which is very important.

Good Luck everyone, wish we could be up there with you.  Hope you are not next to the "No Sleep Twins"...  :o

That guys camping trip sounds like so much fun. Mike keeps talking about the temps there. And since it was like 113 here in The Valley of the Sun today I wanted everyone to know that the high in Taylor today was a whoping 85 degrees.

I have enough teams for Taylor to be a qualifier. That means that there are only ten spots left before I cut it off so if you plan on entering, git-er-done!!!

We just booked a hotel room for Thursday night at the Rodeway Inn Silver Creek Inn in Taylor.  We got a double queen room at a $56 rate.  We'll be camping out on Friday night but might go back to the Silver Creek Inn for Saturday night sleep and post comp showers.

They said there are still rooms available but that anyone who is looking for a room should make their resevations very soon and be sure to mention that you are with the barbeque competition.

Thanks to Aaron for getting a block of rooms set aside for us.

We are starting to fill up and there are only a couple of spaces left. If you are going to send in a registration for this contest get it in. It will be cut off at 35 teams.

Hello All,

Need a little help on the best direction to Taylor from Anthem.  I put it in Map Quest and it wants to send me up 17 N to 40 E past Winslow then south to 77.  That seems like a big loop??

I drove there last year for a few hours and I cut over 260 at Camp Verde.  I followed that through Strawberry, Pine, Payson etc.  Then I went through Heber on 277 to Taylor??  This year I am bringing the Toy Hauler and stuff.  I thought that the roads were fine this way??

SO which way do you guys recommend???

Thanks

David

David,I am going loop 101 in north Phoenix to Shea Blvd.then across thru Fountain Hills then north on Beeline Hwy.I guess you could come south on I-17 to loop 101 east ,then go the way I am going, but I am not sure if that is any faster, than going north I-17 to east 40 .

David, I ran your locations through my GPS software and it shows the I-17 to Camp Verde/General Crook/AZ 260 to Taylor route as having an estimated travel time of 4-1/2 hours and 188 miles but that may vary depending on your actual travelling speed and any traffic along the way.

Coming down I-17 to Loop 101 to Shea to AZ 87 and then to AZ 260 is a faster estimated time of 3-3/4 hours and 190 miles but you will also be facing a much greater potential for added traffic, especially if you are leaving on Friday.

The first route above seems like a better choice simply because there is likely to be less traffic in the road on that particular route.

Hopefully that helps and didn't just add to the dilemma.
