Summer 2009 Camping Trip

It looks like right now we are tentatively scheduling this for the weekend of July 24th.  As of right now, I think we were looking at the Flagstaff area.

Currently, there are no fire restrictions around Flag.  I know that our group needs to have some form of flame or they just wont be able to function.  Lets hope we get lucky and that there are no fire restrictions at that time.  Hopefully, David will be there to demonstrate the appropriate way to navigate the firepit.   ;D

Please post thoughts/ideas/suggestions.

If God wanted us to be Vegetarians, why did he make animals out of meat??

Here's an important question.  Do we want to try to find a campsite that has restrooms/running water or do we want to 'rough it'.  I'm down for either, but keep in mind restrooms and water will cost us $ to reserve (if we can even find something still available).

Thoughts?

I would certainly say with Restrooms.  Either that or somewhere not too far from town where some could get a Room and just join us during the day..

I will definitely check into it and see if there are any spots still available.  I can tell you that the campgrounds that have amenities will more than likely have a Camp Host that will attempt to keep us under control.   ;D

From my experience, if you feed them and share your liquid refreshments with them, they are good to go..  ;D  ;)

Besides, if they get too crazy, we can always sic Seamus on them..  ;D

The only group site (w/ restrooms) that I could find was about 15 miles North of Flagstaff.  50 people max, 15 vehicles max and 90$ per day.

Also, not even remotely close to any water for Seamus and his, ahem, life vest.

I will look to see whats available in the Mogollon Rim area, but I expect that will be even worse.

I found a few spots up by Woods Canyon Lake east of Payson.  Problem is that there can only be 8 people per camp and a 2 car max.  Each additional tent costs extra as well.  If we wanted to spread it out between a few campgrounds, this location might actually work well.  I don't remember the fee, but it was less than $20/day.

And Seamus would be so much closer to the water.

Input please?

You might want to see if any of the group sites at the Sharp Creek campground near Christopher Creek, a little east of Payson, are available.  They have great facilities and would work for a decent sized group.

There are great group camp  sites on the rim by Woods Canyon and Willow Springs, both provide great fishing, bathrooms and Woods canyon has a camp store.

Check out this link, the group sites will take up to 70 people.

There is always Mt. Lemmon in Tucon.  It really is not a bad drive and they have awesome group sites.  This is the location of the Tucson Homebrewers Club annual Oktoberfest.  No lake, but running water, toilets and electric, along with big bobfire area, large ramadas, etc.  Beautiful area up in the tall pines.
