Anyone signed up for signing up for this event. Registration started @ 10am AZ time and they have a 72 hour sign up period. Max 30 teams allowed. Info on the past sanctioning bodies web site. Lead to the Bentonville competing for $100,000 there. Local event will be at the Gilbert Sams Club. April 8-9th.

On the waiting list. Tried to get in real early, exactly at 10am.........long story, kinda got screwed by KCBS, been on the phone most of today with them arguing about what happened. Nothing we can do now. Not looking to air my dirty laundry, just disappointed in them. Still waiting, we'll see. Told I was a a few down the list. Like to be there in Gilbert, not willing to drive to Santa Fe for it though.

Not only are they not Jack Qualifiers the consumption of Jack (and any other spirits) are evidently strictly prohibited on the property during the event. This ought to make any midnight party ideas very interesting indeed.

According to Rule 32 were banned from using the Bull Horn...I think it qualifies as amplifying equipment.

I am surprised the "non Gilbert" locals in the region have not been snapped up yet. Some good opportunities in Loveland and SF I would think. In fact, I am a little suprised more of the locals in general are still available. (The TX ones for example. and I get the reasons, but still...)
I will note a lot of the CA teams went to Gilbert instead of Sac town.

That's not really what the rule says or reads, in my interpretation.
36. The use, possession, sale, transfer, acceptance, solicitation or purchase of illegal drugs at any time is strictly prohibited. The use, possession of an open container, personal sale, transfer or acceptance of alcohol on Wal-Mart property is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this rule will be grounds for immediate disqualification.
But I might be prejudiced in my interpretation.

Thanks Tom. Same to you and all the AZ teams who made it in. Conroe is not the toughest Texas field, I don't believe, Austin is. Quau, Smokin Triggers, Them Ohio City Boys, Rib Rangers, Smoke n Ice all ended up there as well as a few tough Texas teams.
However we did pick up Smoke on Wheels who has to be the favorite in our local event. There are some strong Texas teams in my group but IBCA is, as you all know much different than KCBS. Especially in Texas. There are literally HOURS between turn ins and only 3 meats.
I'm just hoping to not embarass myself.

It will be fun to see how their predictions will play out. It all is how you cook and how the judges see it that moment that matters. It is also a relief to be predicted in last as anything I do better will be better than expected. This will be a good competition with everyone able to best the next along with a few few who are consistently in the winners circle. My prediction is the teams that advance from here will be the best in the finals.

Has anyone received any information on times for the Sams Club event?
I got and email and this is some of the important stuff it had...
1. A mandatory Cooks' Meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday to go over the rules and to answer any questions about the current contest or about the series as a whole. The location will be communicated by your Event Director.
2. A mandatory Judges' Meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday to review the rules. The Event Director will communicate the location.
3. Event Directors will be on-site by 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
4. Official load in time is 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Teams are permitted to stay overnight on Thursday, but they must move as far away from the store as possible.
5. Official Power Time: Friday 12:00 p.m. - Saturday 6:00 p.m.
6. No cooking of any kind may begin until meat has been inspected by the Official Meat Inspector. Meat inspection will be on Friday between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (If a team CANNOT arrive in time for this inspection they must make alternative arrangements IN ADVANCE by calling the Event Director for that contest.)

Tom you are right! I have seen all of the top ten do 8th or worse at a contest. It is about getting all right on this one day and no one gets it right everyday.

I want to thank my team mate Gabe which none if this would be posible without him and the practice cooks that we have done. A special thanks to Bucaguy for the help that he was able to give us. My back really appreciates him for the heavy lifting. And a super special thanks to my stepdaughter Hannah that kept us guy in line and saved the day on a dropped turn in box 15 minutes before turn in. Congrats to the super 7 going to Vegas. Despite the weather it was a great competition.

Holy cow, what an event. I'm about to go take a hot shower and warm up for the first time in 35 hours but congratulations to all the teams that are moving on to Vegas. That's quite an accomplishment with that field. Jerry, awesome work out there with ribs. It was great seeing you take your first walk after we talked last night about how it's time. McFrankenboo owns chicken and it also looks like Jen has the Jambo down. Congrats!

The first time out which was the last comp we did, we were in last place on ribs. Shows what practice and classes can do for you. Thanks to all the support of my fellow BBQers and Justin, enjoyed having you setup behind us.

Congratulations to Iowa Smoky Ds on their GC and Jennifer/Kerwin for their RGC. Congratulations to all the teams who walked and those teams moving on to Vegas.
I'd like to say, thank goodness the U-Haul rental place was right across the street. The truck saved us from a soaking and was certainly a big part of our story this weekend.
If anyone recovered a pair of blue folding chairs, please let me know. I got to wandering around after the awards and forgot to retrieve them.

I had a great time despite being cold and wet. It was nice meeting a lot of you. Thanks Harpo for heading up our team, and thanks Hanna and Scott for all your help. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but it was nice to see our efforts start to pay off.

Wow.... I may have to relocate to vegas for a month... I will be there three weekends in a row. Sams event then a wedding and then the smoke on the water event... Well looks like alot of driving in my future..... lol
