Title: Saddle Sore/State Championship
Post by: Jaybird on April 11, 2008, 10:32:18 am
This event needs just 4 or 5 more teams to make 15 teams and it is a qualifier for the Jack. If you are on the fence...GET OFF!!

So what are you waiting for?!!

You need to visit AZBBQA.com also. Between this website and that one you will be in the loop about all Arizona events.  ;)

Yes, it will be a qualifier if at least 15 teams participate.  I got this information straight from the person in charge of such things at Jack Daniel's Barbeque.  Nice lady, we spoke for about 15 minutes and she sent me all the qualifying information for this year's event.

Wish I could go... Sniff sniff...  :D  :D  Darn blacksheep label...  :-\  :-[

I think you should go and I think it would go a long way toward mending some fences.  I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one who thinks this is true.  Anyone care to back me up on this?

Besides, you have a right to compete for a chance to go to the Jack Daniel's just like everyone else.

Damn right you have every right to cook there. This is for the JACK baby!!

Besides, what Vince says is right. This could be a good time to have a few pops, shake hands, rub heads, slap backs..whatever it takes. Do it for us and the the general welfare of bbq in this state. Please? Pretty please?  :-*

I will jump on the Band wagon and say come on out to compete.  I don't really know why there is a us vs. them thing anyway.  We all want great BBQ in AZ and if we are play well together, I am sure this state will be great.  Mike has put together soome great comps and Aaron has some great event, too.

I am willing to share our lounge chairs at our trailer, add a few beers and I will bring the olive branch.  Talk quick, as the olive branch will be used later to smoke the chicken, so make up fast.  ;D

According to Debbie Christian, the woman who replaced Tana at Jack Daniel's Barbeque, the event can be a qualifier even though it is not sanctioned by KCBS, IBCA, etc., because it has a State Championship proclamation.  Since this is the first year that it is a State Championship, it only needs 15 teams.  Next year it will be deemed as an "established" contest and will need 25 teams in order to be a qualifier.

Soooo --- just how many comps is AZ having as Jack qualifiers? All we need is a Governors  proclamation and 15 teams and NM could have one to. Are you guys having a us against them contest -- very interesting

Mike,I also think that you should come out and compete, there will be no crap going on, and I think maybe there could be some disscusion with several of us there together and get all these Them VS Us problems resolved for the good of the entire BBQ community. It is a qualifier,it has been confirmed, don't pass it up  ;)

If this event ends up as a qualifier, Arizona will have 6 events that will get entries into the draw.

They are:

Taylor 2007 KCBS (which ended on Sept. 1 so it fell into 2008)
Rawhide 2007 KCBS
Rawhide 2007 IBCA
Saddle Sore 2008 Unsanctioned(If there are at least 15 teams)
August Doins 2008 KCBS (Payson, AZ)
Taylor 2008 KCBS

Actually I would be interested in seeing the topics that were removed. I dont read this forum so I am not up on what has or has not been said. But, just to clear the air, Mike has never been uninvited to this event so I dont see why he needs some kind of special invite. If it is something that he wants to do then he can send in a registration just like everyone else. He did send me an E Mail asking if his team could come out and do August Doins which I have not responded to, (give me a break, I have until August) but he has never sent me an E Mail asking what I thought about him coming to Saddle Sore. If he wants to come out to Saddle Sore, thats great!! The more the better. So again, I dont understand what everyone is upset about.

If Mike wants to come out and talk turkey with me, I would be interested in hearing what he has to say.

I also have not promised that this is going to be a qualifier. I will do what I can to make it a qualifier, and from what I understand I have cleared the way, but I make no promises. This is a fun contest with lots of food, beer, poker, and friends. If it ends up being a qualifier, thats just gravy.

Hey Aaron, welcome back, great to have you back online here, we have missed you...

As far as coming out to the Saddle Sore event, I'm still not able to log in over there, it still tells me I'm banned, so figuring I was banned from the AZBBQA site, it would seem reasonable that I was banned from the AZBBQA Saddle Sore event.  With not hearing back from you on the August event, I didn't want to chance sending in a registration.

I do appreciate you registering back here and posting to clarify it for me, and I will see if I can change my schedule up to be there as I think it would be good for you and I to work together and get all this behind us for the benefit of the Kids (BBQ Community).

As of right now, I have clients flying into town on Thursday for a relocation visit and depending upon how that goes, I will try to make it out.  Had I known sooner, I would have scheduled them for a different weekend, but I will see what I can do..

Thanks Aaron...  ;)

Really looking forward to this weekend!  Glad most are able to make it.  Hope you are there too, Mike.

Potluck on Friday night.....is there a "who is bringing what" list, didn't see one over on AZBBQA site.  Nothing spoils a potluck faster than 8 bowls of noodle salad!   :D

Yep that SUCKS  >:(  I really wanted this to be a qualifier event ! I put off other commintments to do this because, to help myself and others and now it may not be a qualifier.Vince took the ball and checked on all rules and regs and found out that it will be with 15 teams, hopefully we will get that many :)

Post by: Mike (AZBarbeque) on April 17, 2008, 12:04:52 am
Tim,

Looking at the teams who are going, I think that last statement on Us vs. Them is off base.  Most of the teams going are our regulars over here and I know I personally have talked with most of them and encouraged all of them to go as well as others.

Unfortunately with such short notice about me being able to go, I already had clients flying into town for a relocation visit and I can't reschedule.  Otherwise, I most certainly would be out there with all of you.

If there are any teams on the wire about this event, I highly recommend you sign up and go compete, this is a great event with very little stress and a great way to get your feet wet on competitions.

I'm sure the Association could put the word out to their members and try to get two more teams involved.   The Association should put together a team for the event like I do with AZBarbeque at all the events.

I will send out a blast to all of our members encouraging them to come out and participate.

Good Luck everyone, it's going to be a great weekend for BBQing..

The address is 7214 E. Arizona Farms Rd.

when traveling south on Hunt Hwy through Queen Creek, when you are at the stoplight at the Fry's shopping center, it is four miles to the turn at Arizona Farms road. You can only turn left, by the way. And when you make that left, it is three miles to the turn into the ranch. Remember you will pass one set of railroad tracks and just a few feet prior to the second is the left into the ranch and it is a sharp left so take it slow. Any trouble or questions call me 480-329-8729.

Let me say congrats to Jay Bird on the sweep. Well done, some day you have to teach me how to cook chicken...lol

Maybe soon, in the not so distant future, we can get the results and find out where we really placed over all, until then I will enjoy my "Achievement"

I dont know about the rest of you but I  know I was swamped keeping back all the guests that attended, what with Country Thunder right down the street and this being the State Championship and all... But hey at least we had the band on Friday night,,, oh yeah I forgot that didnt happen either.

At least I got some pics of the guests that showed up.

The sad part about it is I still woke up three times during the night.  I did not go outside to check the temps, just woke up "said, it will be fine and when back to sleep.  So I did not get as much sleep as I should of.   ;D

Congrats to Jay and Monica, obviously that team has it down and they continue to prove it.  What we need is a big hill with A LOT of wind and I think they have a little trouble.

As usual, the event was good, but the people were better.  And for some reason I am a bigger Red Soxs fan, right Erin ???  ;D
