Looks like Aaron and I are going to need some help to organize this event. We are looking to form a committee. Please PM me if you are interested in helping. Thanks!

DDog,  please post the details so it is easier for everyone to make a decision.

Guys, we are trying to promote more BBQ events here in the state.  If you have the time to help, please do so, it will help make this event much more successful and fun.

Thanks,

Here are the details from 2005:

Queen Creek RibFest Cookoff Dec 10th 2005

Hello! The Town of Queen Creek, Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley, and The Arizona BBQ Association is proud to invite you to compete in the upcoming Queen Creek RibFest Cookoff on December 10th , 2005

This event is being held in conjunction with the annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Festival in downtown Queen Creek, Arizona. The cookoff will be held behind the softball field and Rural Metro Fire Station in Founders Park. Founders Park is located on the EAST side of Ellsworth Rd just SOUTH of Ocotillo. It is directly across the street from the Queen Creek Town Hall...easily recognizable with its tall steeple.

A portion of the proceeds from the cookoff entry fees are donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley and the balance returned to the cookoff participants as prizes and awards. The Arizona BBQ Association is an IRS recognized Non-Profit organization. The size of the prize pool depends on the number of entries we receiver.

Last year they raised $500.00 for the Boys and Girls club. I beleive the rules for the contest were ones from the CBBQA. I will see if there is still a link to them.

More info:

The entry fee is $40.  1/3 of the entry fees gets donated to the Boys & Girls Club.  The remaining 2/3 of the prize pool gets divided amongst the top 1-2-3 places, with trophies (nice ones, too).

You turn in 8 ribs (usually 6 in kcbs) in a white 9x9 box, with standard kcbs garnish rules.  There will be a cooks meeting & meat inspection.  I'd recommend cooking 2-3 slabs to get your 8 pieces & nibblers for yourself & team.

There are no samples to the public, no vending allowed. We do not have the insurance or permit for that type of thing.
