OK Guys I hear ya. I have been really busy with the restaurant, BUT. I say we do some fun ones down here it will take a little work but what do you say, we do a few single meat contest down here again. BUT lets make it fun, With the cost of trophy's and things that make it expensive its hard to do. Being a native of Tucson I am all about giving back with that being said I sure would like to do some charity stuff with BBQ. I know Mike Allison has a group from Raytheon and there are still some of us that are not into it for all the points. I have access to the venue Being the Hog Pit smokehouse and If any of you have any pull with a trophy company. we can get a few of us together and come up with something. Contact me and lets get this going.
As for Mike giving up I can assure you that is not the case. I am in contact with Mike all the time believe me we are not forgotten he is just very busy. Beside like what was stated this is our site its up to us to keep it going. The purpose of this site was never to be a contest driven site its supposed to be anything that can be grilled or Q'd so do be scared post up lets get back to making AzBBQ fun and the place to be.

I can get trophys from Tuller here in town.  I think I paid like $30 for the last set I bought for the last fun event I did earlier this year.  I'll get ahold of them again.

Glad to see that you're still in the game Mike!
With all that's gone on last weekend with KCBS reps/BOD creating judges out of thin air as in Ghost, not living, not real etc (I know, can you believe it? ???) I'd surely hope people would really think about doing other sanctioning bodies events that do not have an integrity issue before doing another KCBS event.
BCS,IBCA,PNWBA etc don't have issues such as this and never have to my knowledge.
Just something to think about.

LOL,yeah after this latest KCBS debacle, they have proven there is no honesty and integrity within that oganization, however most knew that already  ;)

Honestly, here are my thoughts.  What happened at the KCBS event a few weeks ago has no frame of reference to this thread.  Sure, it was wrong...but another thread should be posted up to address any issues regarding the KCBS ghost judges.

This thread is about AZ contests coming up, and nothing else.  I know we all get side-tracked from time to time (Guilty!)... but let's keep this one on track.

Wow, never thought I'd agree with crash, but yes, it really doesn't even need to be on this thread. It's on enought other sites.

Can't you guys just not take jabs at people? Heaven forbid you remain positive for any length of time. If you aren't insulting Tommy,  it's other promoter/organizers and now KCBS. Geez.....

Good to hear Mike, looking forward to some events and contests, you have always done more for BBQ in Arzizona than anyone else and we're looking forward to many upcoming events  :)

This is what I said earlier and I meant what I said,I'm looking forward to some events that are fun and Mike has always done a great job with his events,he has been doing them longer than anyone else in Arizona.I wasn't taking jabs at any person,it was an organization to which now alot of people are taking jabs and being dissallusioned with, thats all,but Crash is right maybe another thread about that.I remember a time when we all veterans here were all positive about everything and still am,but some have made it difficult lately, but anyway I'm looking forward to some Phoenix,Tuscon and surrounding events as are others,we want to get back to having fun in BBQ, and competing and it should all start here with all of us,let's do it !  :)

This northerner would love to come down for any style comp down south. It would give me a chance to see some good friends. A one meat comp at the Hogs Pit would be fun.

I agree Robert, we need another one meat comp at The Hog Pit Smokehouse and possibly also back at Catalina BBQ Company at the J.W. Marriot.

Mark, let's talk about putting one together soon...

I hope everyone realizes I was not taking shots at anyone nor was I trying to be negative.  I was just trying to point out that KCBS is not the only game in town nor the savior of BBQ.
I was trying to point out that A. There are other sanctioning bodies out there without the drama that everyone hates so much. B. The main thing that I don't think gets mentioned enough which is MIKE PUTS ON THE MOST FUN CONTESTS bar none, period. What other event do you go to where the organizer is always walking the event, laughing like a crazy person then breaking into the random "dirty bird" caw, caw, caw like someone who should be on meds? ???
I've never, ever heard that disputed but people need to be reminded and newbies informed (imo).

I'm in Tucson and would love to participate in a 'just for fun', one meat competition. Of course, being from North Alabama, I'd have to vote for pulled-pork but I'll try anything. Never done it before but it sure sounds like a good time, and maybe I could get my boy involved and away from the xbox. ;)
