Event is not a joke, just a little behind schedule.  We had some issues that are now resolved.  We are on a full court press for lack of a better term to fill out the event.  We are talking with bands, have breweries confirmed and are working on getting as many BBQ teams as possible.  The site will be updated regularly and please email me if you have any questions.  dmantineo@cookmanfood.com.

Sorry we gave false hope into this event and did not update as much as we could have.  We have been involved with numerous events and we are still upset with our lack of response to this event.  In all we had 8 teams officially signed up with we canceled after a few backed out.  One Sponsor, alcohol issues with Nevada regulations.  We started the groundwork for this event over a year ago and just could not get the local community on board.  I thought we could ramp up and close some quick sponsors to make it a go but in the end, going 10K in the hole to hope people show up is just not something we were willing to do.  I hope to still meet some of you all in events in the area and good luck at other BBQ events.

You may want to come on down to the Prescott event and press the flesh. Tommy has a quality event ready to rock n' roll. There is nothing like meeting the teams face-to-face. Also, Michael and AZ Barbecue have a tried & true handle of knowing how to pull off sucessful events. Teams know that what is posted on this site is real and now and respond accordingly. I'm not saying that's the only way, but the surest way to assure success.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

Personally, I think most teams would appreciate your honesty in shutting this event down for the reasons you described.  There are a lot of promoters across the nation that promise a lot, deliver nothing and never offer a grain of info as to why an event was cancelled (or never even got off the ground).

I agree with the others, check out an AZ event and ask a lot of questions on what the teams want & expect.

Best of luck to you.
