Hey all, our first kickoff event for the Arizona Triple Crown will be this July 4th up in Prescott Valley in conjunction with their great July 4th Celebration.
This will be a 3 category contest, Ribs, Chicken & Hamburgers. I will post the rules early next week for the event and should have registration forms available by then as well.
Prize money is TBD, however the Grand Champion of the event will receive a free entry into the November Triple Crown event out at Rawhide. We will also be paying out to the top 3 places in each category as well as a GC and Reserve.
Entry fee will be $150 and it will be a 100% payback, meaning that all the money from the competitors will be paid back in prizes. We are also working with the town of Prescott Valley as well as several sponsors, so we are hopeful that this prize fund will go up.
Turn in times will be later in the afternoon, so arriving in the morning on July 4th, cooking and leaving that evening will be possible. If you want to come in on the 3rd and stay until the 5th, that would be fine as well.

Hey all, the registration forms should be ready by the end of the week.
It will loosely follow the IBCA rules.
Chicken - 6 or 7 pieces, sauce has to be cooked on, Thigh, Wing or Leg
Pork Ribs - either cut is OK, sauce has to be cooked on 6 or 7 ribs.
Hamburger - Has to be beef, you can add in what you like, but remember, you are out to please a group of judges. Min 2 hamburgers with Bun (has to be enough for 7 judges to taste)
You can arrive on Tuesday, July 3rd after 3 pm and have to be there by Wednesday, July 4th at 10 am. Meet turn in times most likely will be at 2 pm Hamburger, 3 pm Chicken, 4 pm Ribs.
There is a limit of 20 teams, so the first teams to sign up, the better.
Cooking methods are: Fires must be wood, charcoal or propane. Pit may include gas or electricity to start natural substance and for full cooking if desired. This means, if some of you lurkers only have a propane grill, you are welcome for this contest as well.
The Grand Champion of this event will receive a Free entry into the November Triple Crown Event (Southwest International BBQ Cook-off), so make sure you put your best food forward as the stakes are high.

RV's are allowed, but there are no hookups. Right now, we do not have electricity either, but we are working on that.

The entry Fee is $150, but it is 100% payback in prize money, so that's a great deal... Plus we are hoping to pick up some great sponsors that will enable us to offer some more great prizes.

Tim, I'm not ignoring you, I just don't know the name of the park. I am trying to get that info. Should have it by Monday afternoon.
I did get your registration and a few others already.
Remember, this is a 20 team event, spaces fill up fast, especially since we are allowing propane cookers in this one, so get your registration and $$$ in fast to lock down your spot.
What a great way to spend the 4th. BBQing, hopefully winning some $$$ and seeing a great fireworks display.

They put on a nice fireworks show. Best of all, once the sun goes down it often gets cool enough to need a sweatshirt.

I'll send mine in this weekend, Mike. I'm always up in Prescott Valley on Independence Day to cook for my neighbors there anyway. Might as well have some fun at a competition while I'm at it! :D

This is really going to fun so lets get signed up. Yes really does get cool enough to were a little more clothes a night. Usually in the upper 60's low 70's at night. Your chance to cool down a bit.

On the average, Prescott Valley is about 20 degrees cooler (day & night) than metro Phoenix and is an easy 90 miles and 90 minutes away. It can get a little breezy at times, so it's wise to be prepared to tie your canopies. By the way, the fireworks show is the biggest in Yavapai County and you'll be right in the middle of it; best seats in the house. ::)

FYI. There are several supermarkets within 3 miles of the park: Albertsons, Fry's & Safeway. Costco is about 6 miles away. By next year there will be a Wal-mart Supercenter about 2 miles and a Sam's Club about 4 miles away.

There is a city pool with waterslide in the park. If you are bringing the kids, they may wanna go for a dip whilst you are burnin' your ribs to perfection. ;D

The Pool will be ready ;D and don't remind me about the wallmart they decided to build half a mile away from my wonderfull neighborhood. I guess if it brings you guys up here then it will be worth it!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Hey all, a little clarification on some of the rules and procedures.
Turn in Times will be:
Hamburger - 3 pm
Chicken - 4 pm
Ribs - 5 pm
Awards - 7 pm
Fireworks should start about 9 pm.
The rules for the Hamburgers have changed slightly. Now, you will be required to turn in 6 burgers, you will also be responsible for your own turn-in platter. Use your imagination for this as it is part of the Hamburger judging package. Trays will be returned after the competition if you need yours back.
Also, use your imagination with the Hamburgers. The only requirements are it has to be made out of beef and have a bun. If you want to mix in some special spices or use a special recipe, go for it. If you want to add cheese or not, that's totally up to you. Remember, this is a very "Open" category with very loose interpretation. It is being put into the contest to create a unique experience and some fun to add to the normal and regular chicken & ribs, so have fun with it.

The three of you should do seperate teams. That would give you 3 chances to win a free entrance into the November Triple Crown Cook-off. Just a thought.
Also, tell all your friends, family and co-workers about it and challenge them to come out and see if their BBQ is better than your's.

Hey all, we do have some bad news about the Prescott Valley Cook-off. Due to individuals who could not control their fires last week, the Prescott Valley Fire Marshal has closed all the parks from fires including BBQ's both propane and charcoal. So in essense, the July 4th Contest will not be able to happen as planned up in Prescott Valley.
HOWEVER!!!! We do not want to cancel it, so we are actively working with several locations here in the valley and it is looking very good that it will still go on as planned.
I can't release all the details yet as we have not gotten it all signed off, but it will be here in the Valley, most likely South Scottsdale. It will still be a one day event, 3 categories (Hamburger, Chicken & Ribs) and the GC will still receive a free entry into the November Triple Crown Cook-off.
This event is open to everyone, people new to BBQ, teams that have been cooking for a long time and everything in between. Come on out and enjoy the day and BBQ and the chance to win some $$$ and the free entrance into the November contest.
We look forward to seeing everyone there, I will post more details as soon as I have it finalized...

Yea it is a bummer, we were really looking forward to it, but we are really happy that we won't be having to cancel it completely as we have had a number of places step up and call us asking us to move it to their location. We are hoping to have something in writing today and will announce it when we do.
We really hope to see lots of you here at this contest competing. Since it is in town, you will have time to come out for the day, enjoy the contest, possibly win some great $$ and prizes and still make it home to the family and go watch fireworks somewhere.

We we're able to come up with what we needed, so the seller won't be able to snake our land from under us. Just gunna have work 24/7 for a couple months. It worked out though. Hope to see you guys up here for our little shin dig on the 16th. Good luck all at the cook off.

We will have an answer for you by Wednesday at 5 pm at the latest. We are still working with companies behind the scenes to put this cook-off together. As soon as I have confirmation one way or the other, I will let you all know. Like I said though, 5 pm on Wednesday at the latest...

It looks like it's going to be at a Sam's club in Mesa. The local management has signed off on it already, we are just waiting to get approval from their Corporate Legal department. Should be sometime today. I will post the announcement once it is finalized. Sorry for the long delay...

We are sorry to announce that our July 4th BBQ Cook-off originally intended to be held in Prescott Valley, AZ will not be happening due to the extreme fire restrictions currently in place in the Northern Country.
We have been working diligently to find a replacement venue here in the valley, but due to the limited time constraints and prior commitments of interested parties, we've concluded that we will be unable to secure a place to host this event. We will be issuing full refunds to all competitors who have already paid.

Guys, I can't tell you how hard we tried and how many placed we talked with to make this happen. The last thing I wanted to do is cancel it, but with only 3 weeks left, not having a place locked down, we had to just make a decision and as tough as it was, we didn't want to keep everyone hanging.
Thanks so much for your support, we do have several other smaller contests in the planning stages and as with most things we do, we will announce them once all the details are locked down for sure.

Unfortunately, we had to Cancel this event due to Fire Restrictions currently in place. We tried to find another venue to host it, but we just were not able to lock anything down.
Hopefully we can get you and your crew out here for a few other events in the coming year, you guys are always a class act.
Keep checking back, our teams would love to give the California Teams a run for their home field $$$. ;)
