Hey guys! I was thinking now with the cancellaton of Sedona, it opens up a gap between Holbrook and Mesquite events. Wondering just how large of a contingent we can get together for this event mid August? I'd love for us to represent in numbers!!!

We're not going for the obvious reasons. If we were still in AZ, we'd be there for sure. Great event with a Golden Acorn staff that makes the teams feel very welcome.

Henry puts on a nice event and is a real nice guy to boot! Heard nothing but good about the past G.A. events. Personally and for what it's worth if I was picking what event to travel to I'd pick this one first. You know what you're getting, the G.A. casino has always treated the teams right and from past conversations they've gone above and beyond to make teams happy.

Hey John , go to the events page on the KCBS website, They are all broken down by date. Click on the name and it generally will take you to the event web page so you can download application and get additional info.
Thanks for everyone who voted on the poll, seems like we can get a good group together to attend. If the maybes' show thats 10 teams......Awesome! I feel some side bets coming on!!

Just met with Acorn yesterday... Teams again will have access to showers, get $25 per day -per team member - in free play (and you can show up on Thursday and leave on Sunday-- so that's like $100 per team member--if you max out your days---, get free tickets to the Muay Thai (1st time) and MMA (like last yr) fights taking place the same day (at 5pm+) as the BBQ- (these are $50+)... and they have agreed to move us -next to the big building where the car show and fights took place last yr, by the turn in, judges area -- in a square around the entire venue, with the Casino shielding us from most of the wind (if there is any).. yesterday it was only 5mph, and 78 absolutely beautiful.

I think I might be a little special too...
I can find the application, but I can't find anything else about the competition. Rules, meats/events, etc.?
With any luck, I'll be able to go, and hopefully compete...

It is a KCBS sanctioned contest which means chicken, pork ribs, pork butts/shoulder and brisket. There is usually a surprise category at midnight on Friday that is optional.

I've been looking for info too, had to e-mail coordinator for judging application. While at work did some searching and found Golden Acorn is the name of the casino which I think is hosting not sure though. Since work frowns on using their PC's for gambling stuff I will need to get home and try looking as I suggested. Hopefully this helps you.

Details- It is our 3rd annual Golden Acorn Casino KCBS State Championship.... It will also be the Official start of the Border Cup AZ vs CA.... Dave Malone (All Sauced up) has stepped up to be California's Captain.... Yes the event takes place at the Golden Acorn Casino in Campo, CA. There are full showers and bathrooms for teams to use every day they are there. Teams that want to come in early may do so on Thursday-- The Casino gives each team member $25 per day Thu-Sunday (teams may stay until Sunday).. There will be a Car Show, Muai Thai fighting and MMA fighting on Saturday in conjunction with the BBQ. Hope this helps

Loot N' Booty is in - just called Henry and we are good to go. Henry did say that he was extending the early bird fee of $249 until next Monday 7/9/12. Well sad to say the Hog Pit will not be making it this year we have a commitment to help cook for the A-10 pilots that will be here in Tucson for a competition. So I say good luck to all those Arizona teams that will be making the trek and bring home our trophy AGAIN.

Glazed & Confused - 7th ribs, 4th pork, 9th overall! I think this is Robert's first KCBS top 10 overall - Great job with this group of teams!!!

Cow Tippin; BBQ - 5th pork, 8th brisket. This is Dave's 2nd competition! Great job man!
Swimmin' in Smoke - 4th ribs, 7th pork. This was Mike's 1st KCBS competion cooking alone - Well Done!
Devil/Cats BBQ - 10th ribs - Mike was cooking with Chuck (first competition ever) - Great rib call guys!

Wow Congrats to all that walked at this comp I sure wish we could have went. Although I would have to go through Yuma and the last time we were stuck there 3 days which sucked. But Im sure you guys had a blast again congrats to my buddy Steve from all hogs, BIG shout out to all the teams from Az. you guys did us proud. Looking forward to Eager hope to see you all there.

Had a great time over there. Definitely didn't do as well as I had hoped, just too many mistakes. I enjoyed having woodchuck team up with me for this event. He got a real good idea of how much work (and fun) there is at a comp.

Wow my first comp is now over and a little stiff this morning from all the standing bending and sleeping on a matt. What an experience , judged several events like to spend time with teams and talk about their processes, also do backyard BBQ and I must admit I felt I had a good idea what y'all go through at a comp. Well I did have an idea but that's all it was, an idea. Now that I have experienced it I've learned there is just no way to have a complete picture or understanding ( Idea ) of the trials and tribulations cooks go through to get ready, travel, setup, start the fire, prepare food ( 4 times ), cook, tend fire, prepare meat for turn in (4 times), tear down, travel home this is an awful lot to do in 36 hrs, does not include things that are done at home prior to traveling to the comp. Thanks to Mike P. for allowing me to team up with if he didn't need a partner I would not been here as a cook but as a judge and cooking was far more rewarding and educational. Thanks to all the other teams who encouraged me ( really pushed ) to get into competeing it is truly fun, alot of work but fun. Yes you all were right once you cook your hooked, hopefully I will be competing in a few months will need to get the neccessary tools to do so. ;D

I didnt even think about that being my first KCBS top 10. I had alot of fun meeting new teams from Cali and hanging out with our AZ Pals. Hopefully next year AZ can show up in force and take that trophy back. I won more money with my free play money that I did cooking, but it all worked out great.
