Title: First Ever Lake Pleasant Cook-Off
Post by: devil daddy on March 13, 2006, 08:50:31 pm
Hey Guys
I am wondering who out there is interested in a cook-off at Lake Pleasant? I don't have any details yet; I am just probing for interest. But I was thinking maybe an event with 3 categories, ( Chili, BEEF, and Pork) some prizes, and lots of fun not too far from Phx! If any of you have any thoughts I would love to hear them! This would be a non-sanctioned event so anybody would be allowed to join!

Hello Devil Daddy, welcome back from hustle and bustle. A big hats off for you hard work and contribution to a good cause. My hat's off to you.
I am game. Sounds like a great idea and has possibilities for growing popularity. I'll pitch in and help.

Ryan buddy, welcome back on line, we have missed you here.

That sounds like a great idea, an AZBarbeque event.

I like the categories, but for clarification, were you thinking Chili, Briskett and Pulled Pork???

Bear will be in town the weekend of April 14th, let's plan to get together that weekend and get the details hammered out.

How many teams?
Prizes?
Judges?
etc...

And out at Lake Pleasant, that would be awesome.

Still looking for feedback!
Team: as many as want to join!
Categories: I say chili is a must! Beef I say for variety any contestant can choose his or her own speciality same with pork. If you are good enough to win you should be good enough to beat everybody's best. Just my thoughts on the matter. I would like to have any feedback from as many people as possible and make this thing evolve into something GREAT!
Devil Daddy
P.S. even if you aren't going to come I would like feedback!

Are you saying you would like to add a catagory of desserts?
Or that you will provide desserts for all those who enter?

So does everybody like peach cobbler?  You can judge it if you want - either way - I'm going to make it.

Only problem -  I only got 4 dutch ovens - and I can eat 1/2 of one by myself.

But if we add some Ice Cream there might be enough to go around.

Slush,

Now you are talking... Peach Cobbler....  Now I'm really hungry...

We are still working out the details for the event, as soon as we have them nailed down, we will post them.

I'm sure it will be a terrific event.

You all rock...This should be a great event, it is really shaping up to be a great one.

We already have two sponsors for it and I haven't even tried to find any yet.

DeWALT as always has offered to be a sponsor as well as one of our member's who runs an Allstate Insurance business, so I'm sure we will have some great prizes and promotional items.

We are hoping to have at least 6 - 10 cooking teams in each event.  I know that might be a bit aggressive, but with this not being a sanctioned event, hopefully we will get out some of the lurkers wanting to give their cooking skills some notice.

Contact us, or post on line here if you are interested in competing.  We are most likely looking at either the first or second week in May up at Lake Pleasant.  We are still finalizing the details, but that is what it is shaping up to be.

Hope to see you all out there as this is more of a meet and greet for our members and anyone who enjoys BBQing.

Hey all, unfortunately we ran into some logistical problems for Lake Pleasant during that time period (Mainly the no burn rule), so we are going to push back this cook-off until later in the year when we don't have those restrictions in effect.

We will however be hosting a "Meet and Greet" the second weekend of May at a local park here in town, we will be posting some details on that soon.

Thanks for all your support, and we look forward to hosting this event later this year.

On the upside of that. It leaves us all with more time to let more people know about it.

Guys,
Can any of you BBQ geniuses get me information on sanctioning the cook-off?
For news We will not be able to have it in a Peoria Park due to their regulations, however I am looking at Lake Pleasant again since we moved it o November the fire restrictions should be over by then.

Hey thanks Caught Smokin'
I appreciate the info. I keep going back and forth about sanctioning this even. After reading the rules I discovered that I would have to pay for transportation and lodging for the IBCA reps. Under normal circumstances I would not have a problem with that but this will be a charity event  raising money for Autism research and I would hate to take anything way from that goal. Do you have any sugestions that might help get me from point A to point B? If so I would be happy to read them.
Thanks again for your help and the research you provided.
Yours

Ryan (Devil Daddy) & I took a drive out to Lake Pleasant today to check out the group site we have reserved for this event as well as to take some pictures of our truck and BBQ Rig.  We were really impressed with the Group sites for this event.  There is plenty of room for probably about 50 - 100 teams as well as lots of room to park and lots of restrooms as well.

Here are some of the pictures from today..

Enjoy!!!

Where is the Lake?
Title: Re: First Ever Lake Pleasant Cook-Off
Post by: devil daddy on May 06, 2006, 04:18:32 am
It is Arizona. Lake is a relative term... Just kidding this Group site is about 200 yards from the lake but about 100 feet above it so you really can't see it from the pictures. My point in shooting the pictures was to show the size of the lot so everyone can that we wont be stepping all over eachother. It actually is a very big lake with lots of water sports. The nice thing about AZ is people might be able to get in the water even in November!

Arizona actually has more boats per capita than any other state, including California.

We are planning on having a stage, Large tent and PA system.  Don't know where we will get this yet, but it is part of the overall plan.

Here are some pictures of the lake for you all to enjoy!!!
