Hey all, BBQ Island will be having a BBQ Boot Camp this coming Saturday and Sunday with Chris Marks from The Good One teaching.  It will be a great class.

Here are the details of the class.

Chris Marks from The Good One, signed up to do a two day BBQ BOOT CAMP on June 20th & 21st here in the parking lot at BBQ ISLAND.  Both classes will run from 9am-2pm, and and we'll serve Chris's amazing B-B-Q for lunch both days. We're also going to do a handful of give-a-ways during the classes.  Class costs are $99 a person, or $149 for father/son combinations.(Anyone who signs up with a friend can receive this pricing.)

The classes will be geared more for beginners, although I'm sure anyone could learn a lot from Chris Marks. The classes are designed to take you through the big four: Chicken & Pork Ribs on Saturday; and Pork Butt & Beef Brisket on Sunday. Chris will provide extensive handouts on all the material he covers. While he will definitely answer any competition BBQ questions participants may have; however, these classes will not be formatted to cover competition BBQ.

At this point, I think whenever you can get it in.  They sent it to me while I was out on Vacation and I just got it put on today.  Wish I had known about it sooner as well.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but had they got it to you soon enough, it would have been a good thing to put on the calendar.   ;)

Are any of our members planning on attending this event?

AZBarbeque will have a table out there promoting the club.  If any of our members would like to stop by and help out at the table, we would love to have you.  Just wear your AZBarbeque shirt and come on out.  ;)

I wont be there due to a prior engagement.  One of our teammates will be there taking notes though.

Sounds like a good time and I'm bummed that I'm unable to attend.

So Saturday you can go get your BBQ class out of the way, then join the AZ Barbecue club down at McDuffy's (also in Tempe) for the Green Chile Cheeseburger Crawl!

After further research, you are correct.   Boot camp this week, Crawl next week....although I will be doing a crawl of my own this weekend to Zipps.

BTW, could be doing a little sushi Fri night.

Mod:

Oh Yeah, you are going to be "Greasing It" Friday night. Forgot about that. :D

Any of you who have the opportunity to take this class NEEDS to. My team has taken classes from this guy in Kansas City and they are really great for new people wanting to compete. Not only is it good for competitors but good for complete rookies. Perfectly informal and a great perspective from a true champ.  Check this out from one of the classes.

I watched the video, and if that's only a sampling of the class, I can't wait to go!  I'll be there tomorrow, and I'm bringing my camera, I know how everyone here likes food porn.  I better be going to bed soon, so I'll be fresh.  Hope somebody has some 2XL AZBarbeque shirts there.

For those of you who missed this class, you missed a great one.  Chris gave a great class today and even though they said it was BBQ 101, he went over a lot of Competition info.

Great class and everyone seemed to enjoy the hands on and results..  Hope they enjoy their "Homework"...

Thanks to all of our members who stopped by and said, "Hello" to everyone at the class.  Everyone seemed very interested in the club and I'm sure we will get quite a few new members over the next few days.

A HUGE Thanks goes out to BBQ Island, Ace of Hearts, The Good One and Chris Marks for putting this class together.  A lot goes into these things and it certainly is much Appreciated.

Great Class...  ;)

No Doubt, Mike.

Chris really knows his stuff, there was a great turnout of eager BBQ Co-eds and from what I overheard, the students were definitely getting their money's worth.

Thanks to BBQ Island for providing the venue and refreshments.  They are always so supportive of the club and their enthusiasm for all things BBQ is to be commended.  If you have not yet been by BBQ Island, I encourage you to do so, you will be pleasantly surprised.

This weekend I fell in love with real pit BBQ. The classes were incredible. Thanks, Mike. The guys at BBQ Island, Chris and Tammy Marks, Jim from Four Peaks for the great beer, and everyone else who made this a real great experience. Pics from day two will follow. Thanks again to all. And Mike, I think I have a new favorite t-shirt. Thanks.

Yeah, wish I could have been out there for Day 2 as well.  Gotta get my practice cooks in before my next comp coming up in July, though.  I can attest to the fact that these classes help bring up your game.  Glad to hear that you got a lot out of it, Johnny.  I look forward to seeing you at the next competition!

The BBQ Boot Camp was a Great Time & Success. Thank you to all who attended. From Beginners to Comp guys I think everyone picked up on some great Smoking Tips from the man Chris Marks. Thanks to Mike from AZ BBQ and showing support for our event, I think we got a few new members for ya.We maxed out our class and had a great time. Chris said we had enough food for 100 but ate everything. Mike, you missed out on the brisket, it was amazing. Also letting everyone know there is a 150 Rebate on the Open Range and 250. If you would like to try out the Open Range or The marshall, take one for a week and give it a try. It did not matter if you had a WSM or a Fast Eddy, we made believers out of a lot of people this weekend on The Good One Product. Thanks again to all who came to our event it was a great time and Especially Chris and Tammy for making the trip out to do this class we are looking forward to having you back in December when we do our BBQ Festival again.

Thanks for the sweet pictures Johnny.  It was nice to meet you out at the class yesterday.

Nice to meet you too, Crash.  I think you were the only one Mike referred to by your online "handle".  He introduced me to others, but only by first names, so I don't know if there was anyone else from AZBBQ there.  Cool to hear about your smoke for your friend's bachelor party.  All I got was my brothers-in-law taking me to Hooters and indoor kart racing.  Not that I'm complaining about Hooters.

Also, I thought I'd add that I sampled some of D-Dog's Cranberry Chipotle sauce at the event.  Yum.  It was the good blend of spicy and sweet that I look for.  Spice is nice, but the sweetness really complements it, and the ratio was just right.  I'll be picking some up soon at BBQ Island.
