-
We'll see you there!
-
Be there will little bells on.
-
Jay, WTF?!! You're going to be there with little --
ohhh, you said bElls. Never mind. (http://www.divaherself.com/funny/shiner.gif)
-
We've been signed up for this one since the end of January!
-
We'll be there too.
-
McFrankenboo is in too!
-
Ahhhh yes, I remember this one from last year, pulling a smoker through a blinding dust/rain/hail/windstorm late on a Friday afternoon, fully expecting to die in a fiery crash at any moment. That was fun.
Boulder City is a great event, (aren't they all, really?) had fun judging and drinking Marty's whiskey. What was the name of that little breakfast joint down on the main drag? Thems was some good fixins, right there.
In one capacity or another, I'll be up to this one for sure.
-
BUMP!
Less than 2 weeks away!
-
We sent our check in just before leaving to Indio. They have not cashed it or responded, so I hope we are in???
-
Your name is on the list of participants and it says that they are still accepting applications so I think you are all set. We're looking forward to this one as everybody says it's a lot of fun. Hopefully Arizona can't represent again!
-
BUMP!
Less than 2 weeks away!
I'm not showing up on the list, but they did email and said they received my check. So, Pappa Charlies will be there as well!
-
I showed up on the list and they still have my team info from 2004!!! ???
-
You sound like a very eager young new team, just happy to compete. ;D
-
We will be there as well...
-
Can anyone tell me if there are specific fire extinguisher rules we need to be aware of at the Best dam contest?
-
Last year a guy came by and just made sure we had one of the correct size (5# ABC with hose) I took some freebies for the first time and all were gone by the end of the first day, so I guess they hit up others?.?.?
-
Everyone who has sent checks in that havent been cashed should call on friday and confirm..they are taking 33 teams and they are about there. On a personal note I know there has been 2 unfortunate and very unforseen deaths recently that have affected 2 of the key people running this event.this is also been the reason for the lack of updates on the website. We are going in on wednesday to assist in helping paint the street and put some of the structure together. Please do not call Larry for info...I will provide a name and # on thursday for everyone to make contact.
Thanks Tom
If anymore info is needed i may be able to help..please give me a call
480-209-9685
see everyone there
-
Thanks for the update Tom,I will see you there next week.
-
Thanks Tommy,
My check just cleared last night, so I guess we are in. Does anyone kow if you can move in Thursday night or is it only Friday?
Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
-
Beth Walker is the contact 702-277-4121 be sensitive this is here retail store # but the only one she provided...be sure to have the total space you need and any special instructions..Thanks
-
Tom,my check was cashed long ago.Should we still call Beth Walker and let her know what space size we need, when we will load -in and when we are leaving ? I don't want to call and bother her if it is not needed. Thanks !
-
I called and left her a message regarding space size because we needed a bigger one but we are also curious about possibly getting in on Thursday night.
-
I just got off the phone with Beth and she said that she would prefer that people don't get in until Friday because they were setting on Thursday night.
-
They shut the streets down at 4pm on thursday but you didnt hear that from me..this would allow you to come out but not be placed in your spot until friday am...I REPEAT YOU CANNOT BE PLACED UNTIL FRIDAY AM.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE #5 AND THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT THEY ARE NOT OUT OF DATE.
-
Weather's looking pretty good for this coming weekend. ;D
-
90's beat the hundreds anyday.
Good luck to everyone this weekend!
-
Last year we got hail and rain. But i am sure i will be B!t@hing about it being too hot. ;D

OK, this is for all who are attending this event...we are going to party like it's 1999 at the McFrankenboo Pub!!
Saturday is actually my 10 year anniversary of graduating from college so I am celebrating like I did back then (maybe not like then because my tolerance has suffered considerably in my old age and I am hoping that it won't be pouring rain like it did on my graduation day!). I'm a dork, I know, but any excuse to have a gathering! ;D Bring a chair, whatever you want to drink and some snacks and we'll have Happy Hour at the Pub! We're trying to figure out how to bring the Wii so can have some entertainment but come and play either way! It will be after the awards ceremony so you can come and stare in amazement at our GC AND RGC trophies because we're just that good (HA!). Seriously though, come and play and enjoy Arizona sweeping the event!! See you all this weekend!
-
I'll drink to that!!!! ;D

Chika Chika Yeeeeaaaahhh! Two questions....what color was the rain on graduation day, and is Jim going to dress up like Prince?

Ha ha! Can you see Jim with assless pants! Ha! It did pour rain though and I was in between two girls with umbrellas so the rain all went right off of the umbrellas into my lap! My dad said my cap made me look like I was the Flying Nun the way it was warped from the rain. Yup, great day in the life of Erin Hagenbuch!
We just set the Wii up and it will work just fine, so we might have to have a tournament ;D

Chris Bell is going to be playing both Friday and Saturday nights at the Backstop Sports Pub......Kick Ass Blues. http://www.myspace.com/chrisbellblues
Will have to wander over there at some point.
-
Have fun out there this weekend everyone, my plans changed and unfortunately, once again, I will not be making it out there.
Sounds like a fun party Erin, I still don't know where us Arizona teams get this whole "Party" reputation.. ;D
Good luck to everyone, travel safely and bring home some great hardware.. ;)
-
What they are trying to figure out, is why teams in the midle of a desert are cooking up some of the best BBQ around???
We will track you guys down, as we are leaving Friday morning.
-
Good luck all bring it home
-
I spoke to Phil from the Meat market in Boulder today and he has alot of meat for the event. He will get it ready for you if you call him.
He has brisket for $1.99 for choice and pork butt for $1.79. I didn't ask about ribs, but I asked about thighs and all he carries is boneless.
The number is 702.293.4213. I told him to jump on here and post, but I haven't seen him yet. he is located right across the street from the event.

How far of a wander is this? Will I need a compass? I've been known to enjoy the blues..
-
Less than 5 minutes walk. It is a fun bar with lots of locals....had quite a time there last year...
-
I was looking at the pictures from this event last year and was wondering, since there is no people's choice/sampling, do we still decorate the booth? If I don't have to bring all the stuff, I don't want to!
-
Last year, we did not decorate the booth, we were too busy looking for shelter from the hail. ;D we are not taking a lot of our stuff, as we are not doing any vending or PC.
-

We also are traveling light this year,no booth decorations at all.The weather is on track again for this year like last year I think :( The low pressure system off Ca. should start moving east by later wed or thurs. and it will increase chances of rain in the southwest.Oh well rain, hail, and high winds never hurt anyone, well,ok,maybe they did, just ask Dorathy, and ToTo ;D

I think last years weather was good luck. Whatta you think Tim? ;D
-
Yep, last year was good to you guys. Now it is our turn. ;D
-
Are you bringing the FEC David?

Yes it was ;) I am hoping for snow, high winds,30 foot waves, and maybe an earthquake or 2 this year ;D ;D Thats probably what it will take for us to win,we have been struggling as of late :( :-[ :'(
-
I'll be sure to pack some good karma for you, Tim. O0 I got a little laying around the house we're not using.
-
Erin, you should definitely decorate the booth. Be sure to bring Seamus, The Canine Satellite Dish too!
-
Are you bringing the FEC David?
Yep, Scottie, the FEC is making her debut at Boulder City. I have been working on figuring out the cooking times, so I hope to turn out some decent BBQ.
Got a small 400 lb order of Hichory Pellets from Candy. I think I will be getting a much bigger order the next time, but they were great. They even found that cheaper shipping prior to sending, it saved me 60 bucks in shipping charges.
-

I'm sorry, are you mocking Seamus, the Irish Attack Dog??? He will bite your Crocs the next time he sees you!! Now tell me this face isn't freakin' adorable...
-
What'd he have cut off that you had to put him in that contraption? ???
-
Ha! Take a wild guess! ^-^
-
He matches my new scooter. ;)
-
Poor Seamus, not only does he have his "Dog Hood" cut off and is forced to wear such a contraption, but to make it pink with ears just takes any and all remaining "Dog Hood" away from the poor fella... >:(
-
Ha! Take a wild guess! ^-^
Oh man....wait.....losses the things :'( and wears pink....
Can he pick up ESPN on that thing?
-
No more pay-per-view channels for us, the dog satellite dish is no longer on. Now he just sticks to his life vest and McFrankenboo tshirt!
-
Erin, Is that the same pink cone that Jim had to wear too?? ;D
-
That would officially make it the Cone of Silence.
-
But they did not "Miss it, by that much"
-
Seamus is currently making an appearance on my facebook, and I have a video posted that features a woman who eerily speaks just like Erin....yikes!
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=1594867549&ref=profile
Could be twins, or at least sistas. Trust me, you will die laughing.
-
That would officially make it the Cone of Silence.
Get Smart!! Favorite thing to watch back in the day!!!
-
I know I drove this last year, but I am still trying to figure out which direction is faster. Google maps tells me to go through Laughlin instead of over the Hoover Dam, which is the way we went last year. I came ome over the Dam, but I know there is a check point, since we are hauling a trailer.
So which way are most people going??
-
I'm going over the damn dam.
-
I have gone over the dam both years and I think that even with the check point it is still the easiest way to go.My mapquest search showed it was the fastest and shortest route too,but ???
-
I is actually considered good luck to stop on the dam, get out, and spit over the edge....why don't you give that a try this year Tim? :)
-
Do we know if there is ice available at this event? Don't want the beer or bloody mary's to get warm now do we?!
-
For a non RV'er..what are the parking arrangements like? If I "sleep" in my vehicle is the parking close by? Is there a place for me to pitch a tent?
As usual, I'm well prepared.....
-
Do we know if there is ice available at this event? Don't want the beer or bloody mary's to get warm now do we?!
I'm pretty sure somewhere I saw that Ice would be for sale. Right next to them telling us a place to dump ash and grey water would be available.
-
You should be able to pull your truck in at night to sleep. You can pitch a tent too cause we are on a street with parks on both sides.
-
Well, we are mostly packed, saving the meat and such until the morning.
Been an interesting start to this trip, as I lost my Drivers License at Rest Depot, so had to drive down and pick it up. Went to pick up the Trailer and had a flat tire. Had two tires replaced today. Then while loading, it rained, big time.
Oh, well. I know the tires are good.
Erin, If I remember from last year there is ice. Not free, but available.
I am going over the Damn dam too, so see your guys on Friday.
David
-
By my count, we--being ARID ZONA--have 17 of the 40 teams. With 3 or 4 other states represented, no less! I'm impressed. Tiara is finished 8th grade, and her promotion party is this weekend, or I'd've found a way to be there. I'll root on all youse AZ guys virtually. You are really quality people, and I'm proud to count you as my friends. I just need to get to know some of you better. Whic means I need to attend more functions!
kitch
-
Pappa Charlies is loaded up like the Beverly Hillbillies and headed for the Dam. If they have wifi out there, I'll try and update as the day progresses.
-
Go Get Um AZ!!! Good Luck to all of you and I can't wait for all that hardware to come back to our side of the Dam!!!
-
It's a little warm here but partly cloudy and breezy so if we're in the shade it's not too bad! Seamus is chillin' in his pen under a shady tree enjoying the grass and I'm enjoying a nice cold adult beverage...don't judge me. There are quite a few people here already set up so here's to AZ kickin' some BBQ butt!
-
Any news or update on this event yet?
-
Jim called Mike Blake GC BLQUE RGC

Complete results are on KCBS site.

WOW, 96% CBJ, that's pretty good.
Congrats to all the teams that walked. Seemed like scores were all over the place out there. Wonder if weather was a factor.
Congrats to Mike Blake and Blake's BBQ for GC and to BLQUE for RGC. Way to go...
Great job everyone. Travel safely home.. ;)
-
WOW! Nice showing, Arizona! Thank you all for representing our state and this group so well. Blakes GC--FANTASTIC! Congrats to Wes for a 5th overall and 5th in brisket--Texans and their cows, huh? McFrankenboos first in ribs! Impressive! R'n'Q knows what to do with chick'n! AZ Quers ROCK!
-
I don't think the weather was too much of an issue, it did rain a little Friday night/Sat morning (around midnite or so) but it blew over fast. They had a CBJ class the Thursday before, might account for the strange numbers.
I got a comment card that say Sauce looks gloopy, chicken lacked flavor, but the same judge gave me a 7 in appearance, 7 in taste and a 9 in texure and I had 3rd place chcken overall???
It was a fun event and AZ was well represented with several walks and of course Mike and Holly with the GC.
Congrats to all that cooked and walked.

Actually 15th Overall. Dave and Toys4, were 5th. It was a strong showing by those of us from AZ that made the journey.
As a rookie competitor I have to say this was a great event with a large turn out by the local population. There is a nice park around the site and the local watering holes are within walking distance.....or so I've heard.
Great job by Rythm N Que and Mcfrankenboo on thier 1st place walks. Great job by Toys4 with two 3rd place walks, And Blakes took a 1st and of course the GC, great job.
Thanks to Dean for showing me how to create the boxes here in my first KCBS event.
For some reason, I received no comment cards which I think would have been nice to have. I sure thought my pork was the best I've ever done, but the scores certainly don't reflect it. I knew the ribs sucked and thought my brisket was decent. Time to change the chicken profile..
I'll post a review of the Pro Q in the that section later and the UDS, was as always, money. This time literally.

Blakes are going to Lynchburg! Blakes are going to Lynchburg!
Congratulation on another well-deserved win -- and AUTOMATIC TO THE
JACK, baybee!!!!!!!! (http://www.divaherself.com/headbang.gif)
Just to mix things up, we had a blend of the last two years -- a quick thunderboomer and rain on Friday night (you never saw six WSMs move under a canopy so fast), then broiling heat on Saturday.
This contest once again pointed up the difference between a high CBJ %, and a high percentage of experienced CBJs. We were all cracking up over the comment cards afterward -- nearly all contained some contradiction that was just a lot funnier after a couple of beers. Our card for ribs noted that they were "Overcooked, meat fell off the bone. Also a little tough." You know we have got to have some amazing rib mojo to cook fall-off-the-bone ribs that you can crack a molar on!!!
-
Congrats to Mike & Holly for they're great performance! You two had a great cook and really deserved the win. Oh, and that invitation to Lynchburg ain't too bad either!!! Great job!
Arizona teams ruled the day taking 8 of the top 11 Overall spots at this contest. In addition to Blake's BBQ as GC, our state had:
3rd - Smokin' Goatheads - Lake Havasu
5th - Toys 4 BBQ'N - Anthem
6th - Rhythm 'n QUE - Phoenix
7th - BBQ Bullies - Phoenix
9th - One Smoke Over The Line - Phoenix
10th - Otis And The Bird - Mesa
11th - McFrankenboo BBQ - Glendale
Not too shabby!

There. I feel better. Now I put ribs on...

You're famous!! Of course I can't believe they didn't interview Seamus, being that he's a superstar and all, but whatever. I bet Rachel is excited she made the paper, she can tell all her friends ;D
-
Cool little read, thanks.
-
They didn't mention that you guys won the Best Damn Father-Daughter team... :)
