Sunday June 26th we will be doing a Backyard chicken Comp at the home of Rick and Janelle from Lipsmakin(I  think I spelled that wrong)
If you have a small smoker feel free to bring it. But will let you use one of his as well.

No drama please this is just a way for us to get some practice and some feedback.
But we do hsve the golden tong traveling trophy at stake. Post up if you are interested in joining us

We did the first one a couple of months ago and it was fun and informative as the people we  had judge gave us feedback. It is a great way to get a practice cook in and learn. If interested please message Scott or I, as I would like to get a head count. We will provide a side or two so everyone can eat. I will also have some 9x9 styrofoam boxes, so you can either garnish or not. I will try to do my box just like a Kcbs or BCS turn in. We have a great back yard with a pool, so bring your swimsuit if you want. I will have plenty of tables set up to prep on. I have 2 Jim Bowie Green Mountain Grills smokers as well as a Davie Crocket GMG and two WSMs, a Kamado Kooker, a webber kettle that will be available to use if you don't want to haul your smoker over. First to commit on these smokers or space. There is plenty of shade to operate under, so with the pool the heat should not bother us much.
Like Scott said this is a friendly backyard compatition and we do have a traveling golden tongs, so please be prepared to get feedback. Most of our judges are wives and friends that have a clue what good comp BBQ is but not CBS, although we would certainly welcome a few CBJs if a meal and a little socializing is ok with you.

If you have never done a comp this is perfect for you.  Rick has done very well in competitions and is always to willing to give out some tips.   This is a great low key way to get involved.  We would like to get this up to one event a month..  We know not every one can make it every month but would like to get enough people to keep it going..

If anyone is interested please message Scott or I. I know it is going to be hot, but I have plenty of shade and a swimming pool available. Besides having a ac cool house I have plenty of smokers still available to use if you don't want to bring yours. Again the idea is to have a practice cook and get good feedback that might help you with larger comps. We will have a couple of sides so everyone should go home full. Also the highest scoring team will get to hang on to a traveling trophy, the golden tongs.

Rick won again this month.. But it was close! We need more people to come out and cook with us..  It was a good time and is a great way to try new things out.  I tried a new chicken idea today and the judges we had gave me great feedback on it.
