Title: 2nd Annual Buckeye Elks Lodge Rib Cook-off
Post by: Crash on January 14, 2010, 05:58:32 pm
The Buckeye Elk's Lodge will be hosting a rib cook-off this Saturday, January 16th.  Rules are as follows:

1) Teams will consist of at least one person.
2) Teams may use any heat source they wish (yes, you can boil....I asked).
3) Ribs must be cooked on-site at the Buckeye Elk's Lodge (no exceptions).
4) Teams can start their ribs as early as 8am Saturday morning.
5) Each team must produce 3 slabs of ribs.  One slab will be used for judging, with at least 1 full rib for each of the five (5) judges.
6) Turn in container will consist of only ribs, no garnish will be allowed.
7) Ribs will be judged on appearance, tenderness and taste.
8} Any sauce/marinade is allowed.
9) All ribs cooked by teams are considered a donation to the cook-off
10) Judging will be at 4:30pm and will be followed by a rib dinner.
11) The winners will have their names on a universal plaque that will be displayed at the Buckeye Elk's Lodge #2686.

This is sounding like a really fun event and I sure wish I had found out about it earlier.  This is not a serious competition that many of us are used to, but more of a social cook-off for fun.  There will be many members of the Elk's Lodge in addition to a lot of public at this event, so plan on arriving early.

Additionally, everyone is invited to attend and for $12 you'll be dining on ribs and many different side dishes that the members of the Elk's Lodge will be preparing.

If anyone has any questions, please contact Rob Brown at 623 332-4158

Address is 109 N. 5th Street, just north of Monroe.

Sounds like a fun event Crash.  Earlier notice would have been good.

I am going to be at Whiskey River Saloon watching the Cardinals game, but let us know earlier next year.

Do they supply the turn in containers??

Sounds like fun. Is there going to be any vending? Are we going to cook ribs for the public?

No vending.  It's basically just a rib cook-off for bragging rights with a dinner for the members and the public afterwards.  Dinner is $12 and includes ribs (obviously) and a lot of sides.  A lot of these guys are into the dutch oven cooking, so I'd expect a lot of DO side dishes.

I would assume that if you are cooking ribs, you would eat for free, but I may be wrong.

Who is cooking all the ribs for the public? Do they have a bar? Are you cooking?

All the competitors are cooking at least 3 racks each.  They will be the ones cooking for the Elks and the public.  Yes they have a bar... (with Grey Goose  ;)).

Unfortunately (actually fortunately), I am working that day and cant attend.  If I wasn't working I would definitely be cooking.

I'd like to do it, but dont want to be the only AZ BBQ guy there. Come on yall, bring some ribs, I got room to cook'em up.

Joe does have that brand new cooker with lots of room.  It would be great to at least get a few of our members out there for this event.

Bummer that there isnt more interest in this event.  Then again, two days notice and a Cards playoff game make attending difficult for most.

As nice as it would be to compete and win, I have to throw the $$$$ into the Q class.
