Title: What are your plans for this Thanksgiving?
Post by: Mike (AZBarbeque) on November 26, 2008, 06:45:18 am
Ok, what's everyone's big plans for Thanksgiving?

This year, we will be going over to my Mom's house.  She is cooking up a Turkey and all the fixings traditionally and I will be smoking a few Turkey's just to see how they come out.  Should be a great time.

Anyone doing anything different this year or not planning on doing anything at all?

If you are just going to be sitting at home with nothing to do or no where to go, consider yourself invited over to our place.  The more, the merrier.

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving and enjoys a great meal with great friends and family.  ;)

Don't forget to take pictures and post them.  ;)

Thursday dinner at my bro-in-laws then we are heading to San Diego that night to do some Thanksgiving camping for the rest of the weekend.  The Pine Valley area.  One fried turkey and one smoked.  Should be good!

I am going to cook the turkey out on the Stump's.  Karyn is making a lot of the sides today, so we can have a relaxing time.  My in Law's might be coming out, but it depends on the weather.  They were going to fly in to Deer Valley today, but the weather from the Bay Area to here sucks, so they are going to try to fly on Turkey day.

I am going to try hard not to repeat Sunday's test turkey cook.

ON Sunday evening I had the Fire Dept stop

Over the prior two days I cooked 14 butts for three different events in the neighborhood. I scraped the 222 out, but did not really clean it well. I use drip pans on the lower shelves, so I did not think I had a big build up.

Sunday night, I decide to try a turkey run. I mean at 5 bucks for a 12 lb turkey, you have to cook them right.

I put the stoker to 325 and away we go. I am happily working around the house putting up Christmas lights, when the wife says "the smoke does not look right". Sure enough, I peak and there is a nice fire inside the smoker. When I cracked the door, flames shot out the top, it was pretty cool.

I pull the probes from the stoker, grab the Turkey and finish off in the oven. I managed to snuff the fire, but will have to re-season prior to the next cook. My bad, it was never a real danger but it did produce some smoke. The FD guys were cool and kinda got a kick out of it.

I will be cleaning it out good prior to Turkey day.

We decided to bust out the ol' rotisserrie ring for the Weber Kettle and cook our turkey on a spit this year.

I'm smoking a prime rib roast with cherry wood.  This is the third Thanksgiving that I have done it.  I never imagined how good the prime rib roast is smoked.

We are doing dinner at our house with my mom so I get all the left overs!!  I started cooking all the desserts and sides today and right as I was about to finish...I burned the crap out of my fingers in the oven.  This is why I just decorate the booth!  So, at 11:45 I had to have a pumpkin ale so sooth my wound  ;D  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Believe it or not, Jay is going to bring it over on Saturday.  He's been storing it at his warehouse all this time.  I'm as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve to fire it up!

Staying home with just us five.  That is enough family for me.  Doing a ham, a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, veggies, and rolls.  The kids are making special cookies and we have apple pie for dessert.  Very simple and very laid back.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hope everyone had a happy healthy Thanksgiving, give or take Erin's fingers. Hope they're healing well. I hate burns. Smoked 2 turkeys, one for me, one for a work colleague. Big success. It's still nearly complete in the fridge. 21#er in the oven for the "in-laws", actually my wife's ex, his wife, their adopted daughter (who is my other granddaughter), and daughter with her bf. It's a weird dynamic! Joe, my wifes ex, hopefully will join our merry band shortly. He's got 2 ECBs, 1 elec. 1 charcoal. He also just moved into a place with a leftover charm-grill or something bullet smoker. We did some damage to scalloped corn, put potatoes on the endangered species list, plowed thru broccoli cheese rice casserole, and mangled the 21# turkey. Oh, yeah, drank a gallon of gravy and soda.
Watched Hancock last night. Did the Cardinals call him A-hole? cuz they sure have their head up somebody's arse!
