During our meetings putting together the Barbeque Championship Series sanctioning, we also discussed in detail how the 2011 AZBarbeque's Arizona Triple Crown of BBQ Team of the Year race will work.
So, here are the details..
Events that wish to be a part of this Team of the Year race will pay $500 and donate one Free Team Entry to the event that we will raffle off with the proceeds going toward one of our charities.
Events that do NOT wish to support our Arizona BBQ Club will not be included in the race. We know there are a lot of feelings both ways on this, but it comes down to the fact that this club remains FREE to the public and there is a value in what we do and provide and we feel it's not asking too much for them to support us. The marketing value alone far outweighs the associated costs.
Teams must compete in a minimum of 3 events this year with their top 4 events counting toward the final Team of the Year race.
Rookie Teams must declare that they are a rookie team and they must compete in a minimum of 2 events this year with their top 3 events counting toward the final Rookie Team of the Year race.
Good Luck to all the teams this year, we are excited about what 2011 holds and know it's going to be another great BBQ year here in Arizona.

I'd like to put my team, Satisfied Hogs, in the running for Rookie of the Year. I'm the head cook and my team members include my wife and two best friends. Hopefully all the studying and practicing will pay off. If not I'll still have lots of good BBQ to eat. Good luck to everyone.
-
Best of luck to your team Jay. Diggin' the name!!
Do you have a logo yet?
-
Here is the current standings after 4 events this year.
Remember, you have to compete in a minimum of 3 to be eligible and then your top 4 events count.
We only have a few more events coming up this year, so hope to see lots of teams out at them..

Put Glazed and confused in the Rookie of the year race.
-
Will do Robert. Any other teams that are new to competing this year, please let me know so we can add you to the Rookie of the Year races as well..
-
I'll hop in! Bam Bams BBQ
-
If I get the new job I am looking at.. I should be good for at least 2 "Real" comps.. I am sure the CHester's and the Rock Springs mini's do not count
-
hmm, looks like we need to get back down to AZ and work on 2nd/1st place.
-
R&R wishes we could be there for more of these but just cost too to get there. Miss all you guys. >:D
-
Hey Mike,
2 Sons BBQ is a new team. Just not sure we will be in 3 events this year.
-
You only have to be in two for Rookie of the year I believe...
-
I will be in for boo bash and at least one more!
-
Looks like Trailhound may be there for the Boo Bash.
-
Hey Mike
Smoke N Frogs will be there for the Boo and Que, it will be our first and only event for the year. Will that disqualify us for next years rookie team of the year possibility?
-
That depends upon how we set it up for next year, but if we follow year's past, then yes unless you use one person as head cook this year and someone different next year...
-
Can you please add Trailhound Smokers to the Rookie contest. Looks like we'll be at Boo Bash.
-
Only 3 more events on the calendar for this year's points race.
The October Boo Bash Throwdown, then the dual KCBS Comp in December at Bass Pro Shop.
Hope to see you all out at these events.
Good Luck!! It's a tight race so far..
-
so Williams and Havasu aren't in the team of the year race????? :'(
-
Nope, they did not wish to participate this year..
-
I'd like to jump in if were eligible
-
Hey Mike.....Are you going to update the standings before the last two events. I know I for one would like to know where I/We stand. We do have to redeem ourselves, not gonna let that happen again.
-
Hope to have it all updated by mid next week.. ;)
-
Any updates on the TOY and ROY races?
-
Here is the latest update on the Overall ToY standings.
After 5 Events, we still do not have a single team that has competed in 4, so there won't be any ironman trophies this year and lots of teams are looking for two good scores this weekend to round out their Top 4 for this year.
Remember, Teams must compete in a minimum of 3 events this year with their top 4 events counting toward the final Team of the Year race.
Rookie Teams must declare that they are a rookie team and they must compete in a minimum of 2 events this year with their top 3 events counting toward the final Rookie Team of the Year race.
I will have the Categories & RoY up later this week.
Good Luck out at Bass Pro this weekend, these 2 events will certainly help decide this year's Team of the Year Race.
-
Nice to see Major Woody's beating the pants off of McFrankenboo BBQ.......AND Pellet Envy! Whoop! :D
Damn, if Jay just would have made a left turn at Albuquerque, instead of taking the scenic route to the judges tent, we might of been a contenda! ;)
-
It's going to be a fight to the finish. Very close race. Good luck to everyone.
-
Love it! I want that rookie of the year baby! Im so excited for this weekend!! Gonna be a blast!

True, I meant to say all 5.... Last year, we had 7 teams compete in all the Triple Crown Comps & they all got a BBQ Ironman Award at the Holiday party..

Mike...You mentioned our Ironman award but we were not at the banquet last year. We'd like to still get the award. I'm sure its a paper weight on your desk.
-
All of the current standings for ToY are up including the Rookie of the Year.
Good Luck to everyone this weekend, it's sure to be a wild finish...

Out of curiousity when are the updates going to be posted?

I'm done with them, debating if I want to post them or just surprise everyone at the awards ceremony.
Normally we don't announce them until the Annual Holiday Party & Awards Banquet, but with us not doing it this December due to the Bass event, I'm torn on it.
I won't have a chance to post it until the 28th at the earliest, but I'm still trying to determine when we will do our Annual Awards Banquet. I think it will depend on when that date is...
Right now, it's looking like we might combine our annual Superbowl Party with the Awards Banquet. Can't justify throwing two parties that close together.
Thoughts, suggestions, Ideas???

Tomorrow is the big day where we announce our Team of the Year winners for both the BCS as well as the Arizona Triple Crown.
Hope to see lots of the teams out at the event tomorrow at Whiskey River supporting the teams who are getting the awards. Awards will be presented at 2 pm.
Good Luck to all the teams.
