Title: thermometers
Post by: dgbbqtrr on October 26, 2009, 07:47:51 pm
Any suggestions on a smoker thermometer?  I have been looking at teltru brands and they seem to be of good quality.

I am looking to replace my current ones so if you have any thoughts please feel free to reply

If you can, stop by BBQ Island, one of our Club Sponsors, they have a bunch of them in stock and you can see them up close and personal.  They also offer great prices to our members.

Let them know you are an AZBarbeque member and they will take care of you.

Let us know what you get.  I picked up 2 new Glow in the Dark ones for my new smoker..  Love them..

I have a maverick with a remote too. The alarm feature makes it nice when you want to catch a nap. The range on mind allows me to use it while I'm in bed! :)

I think the original poster was speaking about the Thermo that is actually mounted on the smoker door/lid etc.  Tel Tru are great, real quality.  That said, I like to place a double check polder type in by the grill grate for a double check.

I still have 2 new in the box Tel-tru BQ300 with Black Faces for the other Drums I have yet to build.

That's what I thought as well, but the discussion about the other temp gauges was informative so I let it go..  ;)

http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Digital-Cooking-Thermometer-Timer/dp/B00004XSC5 (http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Digital-Cooking-Thermometer-Timer/dp/B00004XSC5) This is the one I have, and I'd like to have a half dozen of these things. Regarding the reviews and comments. The first review complains about 4 in 3 years breaking. Then the person's original review reveals 4 years fir the first one. I'd say that's pretty damn good for  $17. Other reviewers complain that it tops out at 350. Well, it's rated to 392, but IT'S A MEAT THERMOMETER! It wasn't meant to be an oven thermometer. I, however, use it as a smoker thermometer. And my smoker shouldn't, under 95% of circumstances, get over 350. I just wish I had one for the pit, and maybe 4 for meats. Or 5....
I've recently read or heard that putting the probe tip in contact with extra hot grates will zot it. I use a chunk of wood as a probe stand I've had the thing about a year, and dragged it out to the smoker, back inside, into the oven, into various dishes, in the SnP--I foil wrapped the cable where it went thru the smoker door. Still great.
over and out.

And you're the closest one of us to it! Y'all should meet halfway...

I just looked, and San Antonio to Austin is less than AJ to Sun City Festival!!
OK, I'm just kidding, but not by much!! Center to center is less than 75 miles. San Marcos or NB are about equidistant from the middle. In case anybody cares.

IT IS FURTHER, AJ TO SC FESTIVAL! 77+!

Okay, since most of this post has been about the ET-73, what is the difference between it and the ET-72?  No cooments about it being 1 nimber higher or lower than the other either.  I just wondered if one was an upgraded version of the other or maybe it has a different set up, ie.. the settings include more, better range, longer or diffent braided probe wire, etc...
