Has anyone tried those soda pop flavored BBQ sauces? They came in three flavors: Dr Pepper, A&W Root Beer and 7-Up.  I saw a coupon in Sunday's paper and wondered if they were worth trying. I haven't seen them in any stores yet.

Never have myself...one of the "BBQ"  ::) joints in town has a DR.Pepper sauce that is just NASTY...but I doubt it is the same as you are talking about.

If I saw them somewhere I would probably try them.

I have not tried the commerical stuff, but I was trying a Root Beer based one, where I reduced a 2 ltr root beer to one cup.  It did not turn out, as I ended up throwing the batch away.

Hopefully the commerical stuff is better.

Haven't heard of an actual BBQ sauce but rather a mop sauce used to baste when cooking.

What stores are carrying it? Who makes it? I'd be willing to try it.

I've used soda in Dutch Oven cooking such as Root Beer chicken and Cola pork chops. It makes a pretty good sauce.

One of my favorite cookbooks is "White Trash Cooking". It has recipes like Ketcha-Cola Chicken...nothing more than a bottle of ketchup and a bottle of Coke poured over a chicken browned and seasoned with just s&p. We served it at a BBQ joint in north Scottsdale and it was pretty popular. Another dish I recall is Tutti's Fruited Porkettes...pork chops with fruit cocktail poured over them. I love recipes like this. I like to experiment with oddball stuff from a dollar store and see what it turns into. A jar of sweet + a can of hot + a bottle of sour and see what it simmers into.

I've never tried a cola based bbq sauce of any kind but my Mom always poured a bottle of coke and a little water over her oven roasts. It was the Bomb and I got my wife sold on that after she finally let me cook in the kitchen once upon a time. Her Mother has since adopted the practice.

There is a recipe out there for a scrappy beef in the crockpot with coke. I had it some years back, and it wasn't bad.

I have never used coke as a cooking agent. I have however heard of it and have considered it.
