Handles for Vertical Smokers have haunted me a bit, as I have been trying to find one that is easy to install, durable, easy to adjust and looks good. I have tried ones that have a latch on the inside of the smoker that wedges tight against the inner door frame thus pulling the door tight. However this is very difficult to get the pressure exact holding tight against the gasket. I also tried a jack screw type. This type applied the correct amount of pressure but was not very eye pleasing. I recently fabricated a new type that is a latch but is adjustable. The latch handle is thread and inserted into a hinge with a nut. You simply turn it in and latch against the door. You can turn it in a thread at a time until you have the correct amount of pressure. Worked like a charm and is pleasing to the eye. If anyone out there has an awesome idea post it up here I would like to see.

Dave what about putting a heavy spring between the sleeve and the nut? that way there is no need to weld the nut, and if there is ever aneed to replace the nut, it wont have to be cut off.
By the way sorry about not calling you earlier this week, the jobs has gone nuts. Talk to you soon.

Thats a good point, a spring would help out. I did intend on welding the nut. In this pic I had to to hold it there while I took the photo. The nut lays flat against the metal and does not require to be welded as it will not turn when the handle is rotated. However the spring is a good idea I will fabricate a handle and give it a go.
