Title: Sandblasted Drum
Post by: azkitch on February 09, 2010, 05:43:36 pm
I took my uber-rusted uber-ugly drum to Arizona Custom Sandblasting today. $20, and they blew all the rust off the drum outsides + the top and bottom. I gave 'em an extra $5 for some sodas--or smokes, whatever...

They had it done in about 10 minutes.

I've already started painting the bottom...

This shot gives a bit of the feel of the pebble grain surface it now has. It's pretty neat lookin'. I'm almost sorry I have to paint it to prevent rust...

Other than additional cost, any thoughts on powder coating a clean drum vs. paint???

I've actually seen smokers with Powercoating using the High Heat stuff and they hold up better than the high temp paint.  If it were not for the cost, I would do it on my DP..

I was going to ask if powder coating comes in hi heat. I'm in the process of rattle canning it now. I've got black that says it doesn't need primer, flat blue, silver. One thin black coat so far...Probably going to be random colors for now. I'll still look better than Rust Bro/red.
