A couple weeks ago, I finally found something in my price range. It was rough. A Lang 84 Deluxe that needed alot of help. Here it was the night I brought it home.

And after some plasma cutting, welding, sanding, painting, new lights and tires...here's the restored smoker...

I didn't know how the original fire grate was, so I used my imagination and fabricated a new one...

Now, I'm the proud owner of a Lang 84 Deluxe smoker. I've burned a few logs in it, hoping to do a big cook soon!

nice job!!!!!!!!
-
Can't see the pic on my phone but will check them out tomorrow. Congrats buddy!!! Can't wait to check it out.
-
Great looking smoker...congrats!
-
Great job Johnny! Nice find.
-
Thanks, everyone. And thanks to Colt, for providing the expanded metal for the fire grate! It was a fun project, but on to the Q!
-
Glad to help Johnny. Your rig is looking great!!!
Colt
-
Awesome job, Johnny!
-
Johnny that is one fine looking rig you got there looking foward to seeing it in action
-
Looks good, will we see it at Havasu?
-
Looks great. Can't wait to see it in action.
-
Looks great! Will we be seeing at a competition anytime soon??
-
Maybe at Havasu, if we can work out the logistics. Somethings getting smoked this weekend, that's all I know!
-
Good looking pit there Johnny. Where did you buy it from?
-
Looks great Johnny - nice job!! Hope to see it in Havasu!
-
Got it off of Craigslist. The guy had a restaurant years ago, had two of these and sold the other one before I called on this one. It was sitting on the side of his house for a few years.
-
Ok, I was just wondering if it came from Waldo's. I sold him my Lang back in 2002. Good score Johnny.
-
Looks Great...I've got the same exact smoker. Where did you get it powder coated and if its not too personal, how much did it cost?
-
As I said on FB--BEAUTY!
-
Powder coat? Ha! I wish. I was too cheap, and wanted the satisfaction of doing it all myself. It's Rustoleum high heat rattle can paint from Home Depot. Also that way if I need to touch anything up, it'll be an easy match.
-
Well ya done good! Mine is about 5 years old so it will need some touch-up pretty soon...but man it cooks like nothing else!
-
Burning a practice fire tonight to try to figure out temp control. Threw a rack of bb's on. Wood is a different creature to cook with, but I'm liking it!
-
It's funny, looking at your Lang, yours was rusted in the exact opposite way mine is now. I still have a nice black front, but my fire box is rusting. I have tried a couple of different paints, but that box gets so darn hot, it is hard to keep paint on it. As far as your fire box, that plate looks a lot better thank the stock unit that mine came with. The set up mine has has warped because I use a weed burner to light my logs. I have the grill mounted on the front of my Lang, but i mostly use it to store wood. I bet that basket in front takes a LOT of weight off of the unit.
Very nice looking restore! Make sure to update this with post with pics.
-
Wil do. I'm looking forward to checking out the stock fire grate at some point. Hope some other Lang users wil be at Havasu.
-
I'll be there competing as "The Good Times BBQ Company"-Lang 84
-
I'll stop by.
-
Roger has the Mile Long Lang... I remember the first time I saw your smoker. It is impressive to see..
-
Yah, its a Monster! I need to come up with a name for it...maybe the BIG UNIT! :D
-
I'll look for you at Havasu. Good name, now that the other Big Unit has retired.
-
Great job on the Lang!
-
YOU might try seasoning your firebox with oil like a cast iron pan if the paint is all the way gone, it holds up well to the weather and the high heat! just reseason every once in a while and your good to go!!!! It will smoke at 1st but it does bake in!!
-
When I bought my Lang that was what they said to to do the first time I used it. I probly put a half gallon all on the inside of the smoker, including the firebox, brought ti up to about 350, and let it cook for about an hour. Worked awesome.
-
This thing is well-seasoned, so it may be a bit late for that. Or is it a maintenance thing?
-
I just did it the first time, a virgin cook..... Now I have a build up of goodness on the inside, I don't think it will ever rust through the coating it has now.
-
Just did my inaugural smoke this past weekend. When I get some time, I'll post the pics.
