Title: Insulating the Fire Box on my East Texas Smoker
Post by: Trailhound on November 22, 2010, 06:40:19 pm
I pick up the 1/4" steel plate and the Rockwool insulation today and started double wall and insulate the fire box on my smoker. Got the top and the left side in place, will get the right side in place tomorrow. Then my son Chris will start welding all of the edges. Hope to cook in it this Sunday to see just how it holds the heat now.
The third photo show the right side that I still need to make up

Idea, cut the opening into the smoke chamber more so heat gets into the chamber easier.  That will be one nice smoker.

I have Friday just a small a pork loin.
Mainly a test for the fire box, I will be doing a pork butt & brisket this weekend.

I did notice it took a lot lest wood and lump coal to get it up to temp.
Once there it held temp longer with less wood.

Could touch the outside of the fire box too could not do that before.

It was 1/4" thick I then added a 1" frame in the corners and insurance then another layer of 1/4" plate
